Storyline

Beckett is contacted by John Raglan, the investigating detective on the homicide of her mother, who is dying and, tormented by his conscience, has information about the original failed investigation. But before he can pass it on, Raglan is murdered by a sniper in front of Castle and Beckett; determined to uncover what Raglan knew, Beckett begins to investigate old leads in her mother's murder, but is soon suspended from the case after her integrity is challenged by her emotional investment. As Ryan and Esposito continue the investigation, Castle and Beckett launch their own unofficial inquiries -- and both teams soon find themselves up against a mysterious individual with power and influence who is willing to kill to ensure his secrets remain safe. Trivia

During their meet at the coffee shop, Raglan mentions that Beckett's stand-off with Dick Coonan in the precinct happened "about a year ago". The episode aired almost exactly a year after "Castle: Sucker Punch (2010)", missing the anniversary of its airdate by just six days. See more »

Goofs

When Detective Ryan is being drowned in ice-cold water by Hal Lockwood's thugs, Lockwood explains the drowning effects to Esposito and how "he'll lose consciousness right away." Lockwood's mouth movements, however, do not match this line. See more »

Kate Beckett: [her phone rings] Beckett.
John Raglan: Detective Beckett?
Kate Beckett: Yeah.
John Raglan: This is John Raglan. I was lead investigator on your mother's homicide twelve years ago.
Kate Beckett: I remember you, Detective Raglan.
John Raglan: Listen, I... We need to talk, about your mother's case. There's something you don't know. There's a coffee shop at 4th and Main. Meet me there in an hour. Just you. No cops.

Breath taken
24 August 2011 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

First of all, read the above, some are well written.

I just saw it and I couldn't help it, I had to write a comment into awesome episode. (I had to create an account first)

This episode finally make a move on one of the series plot lines. Bring some characters to a whole new level. Lots of surprise, I held my breath (figure of speech) since the very first minutes until the final showdown. Some character's crisis too but some very good stuff between some.

I don't even dare to tell more about it since it's a "must be seen" episode in this "must be seen" series.

For me, this stuff is way above "Lost" (that's just my opinion, don't troll)
