Presenters prepare to leave for South Africa for a whirlwind series of pit stops across the globe to get the show on-air in May

Former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan is set to join Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc as a presenter on Top Gear.

Jordan, a close and longstanding friend of Evans, is understood to be close to finalising a contract to join the new-look BBC2 motoring show.

Actually, a brilliant choice.... LeBlanc knows his cars & has huge global recognition. https://t.co/Pl1HlJnqxU pic.twitter.com/amIjuBFWHU

Matt LeBlanc on Top Gear will be everything Jeremy Clarkson wasn't

13 hours ago | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The quirky Friends star sends a very clear message: the BBC wants to atone

My favourite cast member of Friends was, like the Biblical definition of truth, a fountain whose waters were in perpetual motion; it was only Matt LeBlanc sometimes, but when it was, it really was. The broad stupidity of his character sometimes threw one off the scent, and it was only over time that the sophistication of his comic sense became apparent. He had a gold-plated, King of the Swingers talent, which makes it sort of baffling that anyone British can afford him.

Obviously, it helped that his career didn’t really take off after his bubble, Joey (so far as I know, I was one of only 45 viewers. It was like having a terminally lazy child; I loved it, but I could see it wasn’t working).

Matt LeBlanc as Top Gear host – what’s not to love? | Anne T Donahue

Whether he plays himself or channels Joey, Matt LeBlanc is coming to save this tainted car show, and that’s good news for everyone

In case you missed the looks of confusion and responses of “Wait. What, really?” Top Gear made it official this morning: Matt LeBlanc will be joining Chris Evans and the gang as the new series’ co-host. “As a car nut and massive fan of Top Gear, I’m honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show’s new chapter,” he said in a statement. “What a thrill!”

And of course it is. Many of us saw the episode of Friends where Joey put on as much Porsche paraphernalia as he once did layers of Chandler’s clothing, so it makes sense that the actor who played him should be free to channel his inner – as Chris Evans described him – “petrolhead”.

Britain’s Favorite Friend Matt LeBlanc Is the New Host of BBC’s Top Gear

4 February 2016 6:36 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Matt LeBlanc is saying “How you doin'?” to a brand-new gig, as the BBC announced on Thursday that the former Friends star will join Chris Evans (not that one) as one of the new hosts of its popular car show Top Gear, which saw presenter Jeremy Clarkson leave last year after punching a producer. Though his character was relegated to the C-plot of the show's iconic London arc, LeBlanc has spent his post-Friends career enjoying a special relationship with Britain: His Showtime sitcom Episodes was until recently a BBC Two co-production, and he set the record for the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment in the old Top Gear. "As a car nut and a massive fan of Top Gear, I'm honoured and excited to be a part of this iconic show's new chapter," the BBC reported LeBlanc as saying, but you gotta bet that's not really how he said honored. »

Friends' Matt LeBlanc will be joining Chris Evans as one of the presenters on the BBC's new-look Top Gear show...

While as a rule, Den Of Geek restricts its motoring coverage to Deloreans and Lotus Esprits-cum-submarines, we thought this addition to the BBC's new-look Top Gear presenting team would be of interest to some.

Another multi-millionaire petrolhead is joining Chris Evans to co-present Top Gear: Mr Matt LeBlanc of Friends and Episodes fame. A self-confessed "car nut", Leblanc currently holds the show's record for the fastest ever celebrity lap in its recurring 'star in a reasonably priced car' segment.

The departure of Jeremy Clarkson and the Chipmunks from the BBC's globally successful motoring show is well-publicised by now. That trio has been picked up by Amazon to make twelve episodes of a rival, big-budget motoring show.

"Additional Top Gear presenters will be confirmed shortly", says the BBC. »
