BBC Shows Getting Theme Park Treatment; ‘Waterloo’ Revisited; More Global Showbiz Briefs

11 December 2014 10:10 PM, PST | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Is a Sherlock theme park attraction afoot? BBC Worldwide has entered a deal with London Resort Company Holdings to feature the broadcaster’s properties at a new park to be built in north Kent. The park, the London Paramount Entertainment Resort, promises to “combine the glamour of Hollywood with the best of British culture,” The Guardian reported. Since the park will look to attract tourists in the UK, it’s thought the most international of the BBC programs will feature as rides and attractions including Sherlock, Doctor Who and Top Gear. However, the park isn’t expected to open until Easter 2020. “We’re always looking for opportunities to extend fans’ enjoyment of their favorite shows, and the idea behind this resort is a really exciting way of celebrating the very special place the BBC has in British culture,” said Stephen Davies, Director of Live Events at BBC Worldwide. Ten rides you would like to see at the BBC theme park

Sherlock World? BBC shows lined up for £2bn UK theme park

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, has struck a deal to allow a range of its programmes and characters to be “brought to life” at a theme park to be built in north Kent.

The bathtub-down-a-hill ride will be a hoot for fans of Last of the Summer Wine.

Will the Top gear ride go past different nationalities, and see who can insult them "in the shortest possible time"?

I think the idea is that you wear a pair of 1970's flared jeans. a curly wig, and then get run out of town by various minority groups.

Sherlock-coaster, EastEnders World: 9 rides for a BBC theme park

10 December 2014 9:31 AM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

It sounded so surreal, we had to double-check it wasn't April Fools' Day when we first heard the news. A BBC theme park is in the early stages of development, and could arrive as early as 2020.

You could be riding the Only Fools and Horses wurlitzer or bashing against Nick Hewer and Karren Brady on The Apprentice dodgems in only 6 years' time. It may sound ridiculous, but the success of the Harry Potter Studio Tour suggests that cashing on huge entertainment franchises isn't actually a bad idea and might even work.

Here are our 9 best suggestions for possible rides. Any profits resulting from their success can be sent in an envelope to Digital Spy Towers.

Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear Falklands scandal: 'Reaction was barbaric'

6 December 2014 6:30 PM, PST | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Jeremy Clarkson has insisted that Top Gear did not intend to cause controversy with recent episodes shot in Argentina.

The BBC series drew allegations of attempting to mock the Falklands War while filming episodes in October, when a licence plate on one of their cars appeared to reference the conflict.

BBC will broadcast Top Gear Argentina episode, won't apologise

Clarkson opened up about the controversial Argentina episode during an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show.

"This was deemed by some people in Argentina to be offensive… We don't check registration numbers before setting off," Clarkson said.

"How do I know I haven't driven through Scotland with H746 Cdn referring to Culloden or France referring to Agincourt? I may well have done that in the past."

Ross challenged Clarkson by acknowledging that he first assumed that the use of licence plate number H982 Fkl was intended as a joke.

It’s that most wonderful time of the year again. No, not the John Lewis ad, but the BBC’s annual Christmas TV trailer. So what’s under the televisual Christmas tree this year? Wild Weather with Richard Hammond – review: it looks as if a car will still get wrecked

This BBC1 popular science show is as much about how Richard Hammond reaches research sites, and the boys’ toys he finds there, as the science itself

More evidence that Top Gear is taking over the world? Or maybe – more likely – simply its presenters getting ready for when Jeremy actually blacks up to drive a Bentley through Africa (“total coincidence, it’s just engine oil, this is political correctness gone mad”) and the BBC has to reluctantly let go of all the money it brings in and finally pull the plug. Life after Top Gear.

He, Clarkson, has claimed war – specifically heroic war stories, which he actually does rather well. James May has toys, model aeroplanes etc, because he never really grew up. Richard Hammond – the gerbil – had a go at being Brian Cox, but he wasn’t as good at it as the real Brian Cox. So now he’s »
