With the kind of below average weekend that Phata Poster Nikhla Hero had gone through, it was always going to be an uphill task for the film to see a turnaround. Thankfully though, the fall wasn’t too steep and though there was a gradual slide in collections, the Rajkumar Santoshi directed film still managed to collect around 32 crore at the box office. Considering the fact that the film had arrived with a lot riding on it for all involved, these numbers are just about decent. Moreover, these collections are just a little better than Mausam [29 crore] which had released two years back.
The film has still got a decent screen count in the second week. However to gain maximum benefit out of it, the word of mouth of this Shahid Kapoor starrer had to be truly fantastic, which is not really the case. Moreover, Besharam releases on Wednesday itself which »

Until recently Shahid Kapoor was regarded as one of the best-packaged star-actors among the contemporary entertainers of Bollywood. With his last two 'epic' films Mausam and Teri Meri Kahaani proving to be epic losses at the box office, a lot was seen to be hinging on the potential success of his new film Phata Poster Nikhla Hero (Ppnh).
But look at the irony! Wags within the entertainment industry are cruelly labelling it Phata Poster Nikhla Zero. Says a director, who not so long ago offered Shahid a solid role in a film that went on to be a runaway success, "Shahid asked me for a hard-bound script. I told him I don't work that way. He said he works in no other way. I want to know what kind of a hard-bound script Santoshi offered him for Phata Poster... I can't see any evidence of a script in the film. »

After celebrating a decade in the film industry this year, Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for round two at the box office with upcoming releases Phata Poster Nikhla Hero this month and Rambo Rajkumar, which comes out in November. With not much luck at the box office in the past two years and films like Mausam and Teri Meri Kahaani failing to strike the box office, his contemporaries such as Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan took the lead, whilst Shahid was left behind.
Shahid has learnt from this and says “Every actor has hits and flops…So you should always do the films for your audience and you should always have a relationship with your audience”.
Things are looking up for Shahid though, as Rajkumar Santoshi turned to him for Phata Poster Nikhla Hero to replace Ranbir Kapoor and now Shahid has also been confirmed to act in Vishal Bhardwaj’s adaptation of Hamlet, »

Mumbai, Sep 14: Producer Ramesh Taurani is confident that his film "Phata Poster Nikla Hero" starring his protege Shahid Kapoor, whom he launched with "Ishq Vishq" in 2003, will be the biggest film of the actor's life.
"I launched Shahid with 'Ishq Vishq' and I have full faith in him and his talent. If an actor is accepted by the audience and after that if his three-four films doesn't work at the box-office, then it doesn't make a much difference," Taurani said here in an interview Friday.

Let the fact be told now. In a strange twist of turns, there has been a role swapping of sorts between the two young Kapoors - Ranbir and Shahid. The story started over half a decade back when Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani was conceptualized.
"That was the time when Raj Kumar Santoshi was planning to make the film with Shahid Kapoor. He had actually put it all together keeping the youngster in mind. However, since he was busy with Kismat Konnection, there were no dates available with him. This is when Santoshi decided to reach out to another 'promising newcomer' who was looking at making his presence felt. The boy was Ranbir Kapoor who pronto came on board and rest, as they say, is history," informs a source.
