Storyline
After Assistant Chief Pope gets a special request from the Mayor's office, he assigns Brenda and the Major Crimes Unit to look into the disappearance of Adriana Gomez, a nanny who worked for a rich LA family. Gomez had worked for the family for 11 years, was an American citizen and in every way seemed responsible and reliable. The police find her dead in her home, however beaten to death and savagely raped. DNA ties her attacker to two other cases, also Hispanic nannies, and Brenda believes they are dealing with a serial rapist and murderer. Throughout the investigation, Brenda is being shadowed by Capt. Raydor who is conducting some type of investigation. Everyone assumes it's a background check on Pope who has applied for the Chief's position but Raydor has a surprise for her. Written by

I've heard that Kyra Sedgwick won her Emmy when submitting "Maternal Instincts" for consideration. I think this episode could have given her another Emmy...I think she would have deserved it. It's a great episode because we are able to see the fun dynamics between Brenda and cap. Raydor (like Brenda eating her candy when the captain enters her office). It's good because it seems like it hasn't changed but we end up discovering that it has indeed, which makes sense since the way things ended last time they ran into each other. The best thing about the episode is that we end up wanting to see more: we see Kyra's acting skills when discovering she has given so much information to the suspect and decides to go protecting the victim. I really wanted to see more of the aftermath: the other women in the van and especially the talk between her and Fritz because it's comprehensible the way he scolded her, why wouldn't he? She was in danger but she never acted jack-bauer-like fearless and irresponsibly. It's in the top 5 for me.
