"bommai nayagi" at what cost is the justice served ?

This movie very much reminded me of the Korean movie "HOPE". Both the movies have a very similar kind of plot but are also very different in the setup and execution. The relationship between a father and a daughter and the situations a father has to go through, his helplessness and struggles are portrayed so amazingly in this movie. The movie questions justice systems, cast systems in rural parts of south India and show this affect the life of normal people there. Baby srimathi as bommai nayaki gives an amazing performance, her innocence just makes you root for the character. Yogi babu and subathra gave nice performances. The writing was really amazing in many places, my favorite scene is when the small girl is brought to court and the judge interrogates her, such a beautiful and amazing scene. The scene shows how something can be done very gently and responsibly rather than making it ugly. The music in the movie was amazing.

Definitely a must watch.

Don't let this movie fool you!

Warning: Spoilers
We started watching Bommai Nayagi knowing it was going to be one of those tales of parents fighting to get justice in an unjust world, at least that's what we assumed from the trailer...The movie was MORE powerful than that!!

DELICIOUS

-At first, the film appeared like a "Sembi 2.0" where we observed a poor Velu (Yogi Babu) and his family harassed and crushed by the rich and powerful. The movie started in a trivial way until the climax.

Progressively, the flow of events began to switch, it was no longer about pitying the poor and hating the powerful but the director was now speaking to us. The dialogues were motivating us to stop fearing and fight, not for justice, but fight for our peace and protect what is ours. We were taking notes!

-The film covered a variety of touching themes such as the promotion of girls' education, kindness/friendships, courage to speak up & defy shame, and living a life of honor over greed

-Acting was so genuine and effortless that we were easily invited into the story. Srimathi, the little girl, nailed it👏🏾

-The pale color grading and costume beautifully intensified the melancholic atmosphere of the scenario

BLAND

-Some scenes were a little unbelievable, e.g. Bommai could recognize her oppressors' faces when events took place in a poorly lit area🤔 Though, it was mentioned that Bommai suffered injuries, we never saw any wounds or bandages on her.

Well done Shaan

Great movie.

Top notch film.

Actors are performing very well done. Especially child did a great acting. I love her smile when she says Me is Bharat matha. I found lot of meaning in those lines.

Dialogues are great from the beginning.

It's not a political satire but dialogues are well written. Especially the old lady's song and her dialogue suits very well in the scene.

Music is okay and bg score is good.

Lawyers, police related scenes are so real in good and bad situation.

Yogi performance is top notch and i always love his choice of character. None of the hero is ready to pick these roles. Great salute Yogi.

Director shaan did a great direction and thanks to pa.ranjith for supporting good stories.

Keep it up guys 👍💪

Last 20mins is what makes this film work.

Bommai Nayagi backed Pa. Ranjith once again deals with a sensitive case involving a 9 year old and how a caste oppressed common man learns to fight back for his daughter. Yogi Babu's character is well established and he easily gets into this character. The way the first half progresses with a touch of realism and the people who are willing accept the societal norms even if it's oppressive. The film's novelty lies in showing such a person despite the rich misusing the law, learning to fight his way in getting the justice his daughter deserve.

The narrative is infact slow paced and even dull. As realistic the director wants to approach this, the intent is right in still showing the positive outcome to spread that hope. Otherwise, justice for such helpless people remains unreachable. The attempt is not to trivialize the case and it shows. The last 20mins however is what raises the story with that twist. The bold move to get justice though filmy, worked well.
