Storyline

This entry in the FitzPatrick Traveltalks zooms in on Nevada's famous Rainbow Canyon (singular canyon). Grand Canyon and others
5 June 2013 | by (New York City) – See all my reviews

This Fitzpatrick Traveltalk is distinguished by some pretty pictures of Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. The pictures are quite lovely, with the contrast between the rough reds of the stone in sharp contrast to the blues and whites of the sky. Beware, though: the shots of the Grand Canyon could use some restoration and look a bit blotchy in the print that TCM runs. The sequence around Bryce looks like a painting, thanks to Technicolor specialist Wilfred Cline.

As for the soundtrack, there is an extensive chorale backing provided by Nathaniel Shilkret. Mr. Fitzpatrick's narration, as always, reminds me of a stuffy man showing home pictures -- he seems to shout a bit in this one, as if he wants to be heard by listeners on the other side of the canyons.
