New Posters for ParaNorman and Underworld: Awakening

30 December 2011 6:49 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

A new poster has been revealed for Laika's upcoming stop-motion animated, 3-D movie, ParaNorman. Much like the recently released UK trailer, the new poster is focused on revealing ParNorman's undead, but, not to worry moms and dads, this isn't your typical zombie movie.

When a small Massachusetts town falls under siege from the undead because of a centuries-old curse, young local boy Norman (voiced by Let Me In's Kodi Smit-McPhee) is called upon to save the town, since he is able to talk to the dead. For those that think ParaNorman reminds them of 2009's Coraline, it's no coincidence since animation studio Laika worked on both movies.

ParaNorman was directed by The Tale of Despereaux's Sam Fell and Chris Butler (storyboard supervisor on Coraline) from a script by Butler. The voice cast includes Casey Affleck, John Goodman, Tempestt Bledsoe, Jeff Garlin and Leslie Mann.

The initial teaser trailer and a more brief international trailer gave us a decent glimpse into the world of Laika's new stop-motion animated feature ParaNorman, but now a crafty piece of promotional material has made its way online in the form of a fictional town newsletter from the town of Blithe Hollow. It seems to set the backdrop for the story following  a young boy (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee from Let Me In) who can speak to the dead and must save his town from a zombie uprising. There are some nice touches included ads for Witchy Wieners and Bar Gento, and this is a great piece of promo material. See it below! 'ParaNorman' trailer: The ghoulish (and gorgeous) successor to 'Coraline'

2 November 2011 2:44 PM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

I was watching some of Coraline on TV the other day, and despite some reservations I have about that movie, I’m rather happy it exists. We need some dark, spooky mischief in our animated films, and the medium of stop-motion animation is perfectly suited for that.

So here’s ParaNorman — the next film from Coraline animation studio Laika — with a new trailer that won me over from the first psychedelic guitar strum of Donovan’s “Season of the Witch.” A spiritual successor of sorts to Coraline, the movie is about a boy named Norman (Kodi Smit-McPhee) who can communicate with the dead and, »

It may still be Hallowe’en in some dark corner of the world but if you’re already missing the spooky season here’s a trailer that will get those bones chilled good and proper.

You can see the lineage of co-director and writer Chris Butler here, with art department work on Coraline and Corpse Bride seemingly inspiring his first feature, co-directed with Sam Fell whose previous work includes The Tales of Despereaux and Flushed Away.

ParaNorman stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Casey Affleck, Anna Kendrick, John Goodman, Leslie MannJodelle FerlandChristopher Mintz-Plasse, Bernard Hill and Jeff Garlin and this new trailer delivers just the right amount of tease.

How 2012 is shaping up to be a golden year for animated movies

1 November 2011 7:42 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Mainstream animation is thriving right now. But, as he looks ahead to some of the treats in store for 2012, Simon wonders if it's going to get even better...

There’s a school of thinking that, right now, we’re going through something of a second golden age of animation. The difference this time, though, is that this isn’t being driven by one company. Rather, that for the first time in the history, the mainstream movie animation industry has at least eleven companies capable of producing a strong animated movie.

If you want proof of that, firstly, take a glance at this year. Ilm burst into the animation industry (an area where it’s arguably existed for some time) with the superb Rango (still in my top five films of the year, and still thoroughly awesome), for starters.

We’ve also had Disney going close to its roots with Winnie The Pooh and Tangled, »

'ParaNorman' Fights Zombies And Ghouls In New Trailer

31 October 2011 9:12 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

What's a boy to do if he has the special ability to speak to the dead and his town becomes infested by zombies? According to the new teaser trailer for "ParaNorman," the answer is to apparently take it with a grain of salt.

The upcoming 3D stop-motion animated film, due out in August, comes from "Coraline" director Chris Butler and "The Tale of Despereaux" helmer Seth Fell. "ParaNorman" definitely aligns itself thematically with "Coraline," especially with Donovan's "Season of the Witch" being played in the background of the trailer. The teaser focuses more on the creepy, impressive stop-motion animation in the movie than on any sort of plot line, but it is better-served by that. The next trailer released can spend its time showing off "ParaNorman's" impressive voice cast.

"The Road" and "Let Me In" star Kodi Smit-McPhee voices the film's titular character. Norman Babcock is a misunderstood local »

ParaNorman Teaser Arrives

The 'ParaNorman' Teaser is the Coolest Thing I've Seen in Awhile

29 October 2011 11:31 AM, PDT | Cinelinx | See recent Cinelinx news »

From the makers of Coraline comes another stop motion animated film that will probably scare your kids. That's a good thing though, don't worry.

There had to be at least three of you who saw the title "ParaNorman" and instantly wanted nothing to do with this movie. I don't blame you; I was the exact same way. But luckily I have terrible impulse control (ask those prostitutes I ki...bought dinner for), so I checked out anyway. Crisis averted people because ParaNorman, based on the teaser alone, looks pretty freakin' cool. Check it out below or over at Yahoo! Movies where it initially premiered.

The official synopsis goes a little something like this:

In the comedy thriller, a small town comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he'll have to take on ghosts, »

Surreal Teaser Trailer for ParaNorman Reveals Zombies, Ghosts, and Creatures Made of Toilet Paper

29 October 2011 8:25 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

What do you do if your town is besieged by zombies? In the upcoming movie ParaNorman, you turned to a young boy who can talk to the dead.

In the upcoming 3-D animated movie created by some of the creative team from 2009's Coraline, Norman (voiced by Let Me In's Kodi Smit-McPhee) is called upon to save his small Massachusetts town after zombies attack. It's important to note that the movie is still for kids, despite the macabre elements and the teaser trailer for ParaNorman reveals some very surreal and funny visuals. In fact, writer and co-director Chris Butler told USA Today in July that ParaNorman was less influenced by zombie movies than by comedies from the 1980s, namely Ghostbusters and The Goonies.

There is a genuine warmth and affection for [80's movies]. There was something very sparky about that era of filmmaking that wasn't condescending to kids. [ParaNorman]'s irrereverent, challenging and entertaining. »
