The "ending" of Melody's storyline is frustrating on every level.The character had a lot of potential, which has mostly been squandered on a clichéd "teen going off the rails" storyline, so it's disappointing to see her go.It's even more frustrating that the storyline of a sweet-natured girl mentally tortured by her crazy mother ends with...her going back to that crazy mother, who we're supposed to believe is now not crazy because she's managed to behave herself for a week.And her claim that she's always been proud of Melody is obviously a lie.Most frustrating of all, Miles and Annie, who up until now have been the voice of sanity, actually encourage her to do it.At least she gets a half decent goodbye scene, although it's unfortunately abandoned halfway through for a scene of Nicole finally realising Geoff would rather have a girlfriend like Melody.Nice timing.
Elsewhere, new boy Trey makes a half decent impact, although he's mainly a plot device to cause tension between Geoff and Nicole.The Poulos storyline comes to an agreeable end and, perhaps surprisingly, it's Trey's comments that convince them to put aside their differences. Tony continues to withdraw into himself, leaving Rachel feeling helpless, and the ending of the episode reveals he's not being entirely honest with her...
