“Girl Trip” is the third title to land on Aug. 11, 2017, after Sony’s emoji movie and Warner Bros.’ action-comedy “Chips,” starring Adam Brody, Michael Pena and Dax Shepard.

Packer has produced the “Ride Along” and “Think Like a Man” franchises, along with the upcoming “Almost Christmas.” Lee’s credits include “The Best Man” franchise and “Barbershop: The Next Cut.”

See Omar Epps, Danny Glover, Mo’Nique And Gabrielle Union In Trailer For Almost Christmas

15 April 2016 5:30 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Enjoy holiday-themed films with a lot of big actors? Have we got a movie for you. Coming to theaters this fall is Almost Christmas. The all-star cast includes Omar Epps, Danny Glover, Mo’Nique, Gabrielle Union and more. Check out the first trailer for Universal Pictures’ upcoming comedy now.

A new comedy from writer/director David E. Talbert (Baggage Claim) and producer Will Packer (Ride Along, Think Like a Man series, This Christmas), Almost Christmas tells the festive story of a beloved patriarch who asks his family for one gift this holiday season: to get along.  If they can honor that wish and spend five days under the same roof without killing one another, it will be a Christmas miracle.

Sounds a little reminiscent of last year’s Love The Coopers. That 2015 film followed the Cooper clan as four generations of extended family came together for their annual Christmas Eve celebration. »

Timbaland & La La Anthony Developing Hip Hop Docuseries

Sundance Film Review: ‘Southside With You’

24 January 2016 5:54 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“We have to let go of judgment,” a young Barack Obama tells a group of frustrated community activists, encouraging them to place themselves in the shoes of those they’re up against. While most of the intended viewers for “Southside With You” are probably already inclined to listen to their president, it’s nice to think at least a few non-supporters in the audience might be moved by the spirit of empathy that suffuses this soulful and disarmingly romantic snapshot of Obama’s fateful first date with Michelle Robinson on a summer day in 1989 Chicago, long before either guessed they’d someday be president and First Lady of the United States. On the surface a mellow and agreeably meandering “Before Sunrise”-style walkabout, Richard Tanne’s writing-directing debut deepens into a pointed, flowing conversation about the many challenges (and varieties) of African-American identity, the need for both idealism and compromise, »

'The Revenant' Weathers Snow Storm While Weekend's Newcomers Perform as Expected

24 January 2016 9:53 AM, PST | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

With a blizzard blanketing the East Coast, the weekend's box office was down 29.8% compared to last year. How much of that percentage should be attributed to the snowstorm and how much is due to the fact American Sniper was tearing up the box office last year is difficult to decipher. In all, the snow's effect was certainly noticeable when looking at the weekend's top two recent holdovers as The Revenant scored the top spot despite coming up a bit short of expectations while Ride Along 2 suffered a massive second weekend drop. Meanwhile the weekend's three new wide releases, led by Dirty Grandpa, all performed as expected and Star Wars: The Force Awakens held strong with a second place finish, inching even closer to $900 million domestically. Living up to its lead character's struggle, The Revenant fought the bitter cold, scoring the #1 spot in its fifth weekend in overall release and »

Brothers in Atlanta,” a comedy series hailing from Diallo Riddle, Bashir Salahuddin and “Saturday Night Live” producer Lorne Michaels, is no longer moving forward at HBO, Variety has confirmed.

The series would’ve followed Langston and Moose (played by writer-exec producers Riddle and Salahuddin), two struggling entertainers and best friends, as they attempted to navigate relationships and life in Atlanta. It was ordered to series in April 2015.

Andrew Singer and Tim Story were also attached as executive producers, with Jeff Field, Doug Griffin and Anna Dokoza producing. Story (who has directed films including “Think Like a Man” and “Ride Along”) helmed the pilot.

Tim Story: How the Billion-Dollar Director Scored Big With ‘Ride Along’

13 January 2016 10:00 AM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Tim Story has helmed seven feature films that have grossed nearly $1.1 billion worldwide. Six of these films debuted at No. 1 at the box office, including Universal’s 2014 action-comedy juggernaut “Ride Along,” starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, which netted more than $41 million its opening weekend and has grossed over $155 million worldwide. Two years later, its in-demand sequel, “Ride Along 2,” opening Jan. 15, is bound to bring in a hefty box office haul (“Our expectations are very high based on the strength of the movie,” says Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Pictures). To boot, Story and his wife, Vicky Mara Story, run the Story Co., an entertainment production house they jointly founded in 1996, and Story has recently inked a deal to direct the upcoming Nicki Minaj comedy project for Freeform (formerly ABC Family).

In short, to say that Tim Story is having a “moment,” would be an understatement. He’s had several. »

“There was a big scene on the bridge where the guys had to find Ben Grimm and he’s caught on the bridge. I think I had so much fun doing that scene because it was the first I’d ever created from scratch — a thing like the Brooklyn Bridge. I had the chance to create a world. I remember going in when I first sat down with the producer and the production designers and it was, ‘How are we going to do the bridge?’ I actually thought for a second we were going to close down the Brooklyn Bridge and that would be impossible. The fact that I got a chance to build pretty much a section of the Brooklyn Bridge blew my mind. That was a big emotional scene and, to this day, really loved making that.”
