Storyline

Set in Uttar Pradesh, Chulbul Pandey is a young boy who lives with his mother Naini, stepfather Prajapati, and younger half-brother Makkhi. Chulbul is constantly angry that his step-father is always partial towards his own biological son. 21 years later, Chulbul is a rowdy, mischievous, and sometimes crooked cop, who refers to himself as "Robin Hood." He does everything in his own indomitable way; whether it's dealing with corrupt politician and thug Chedi Singh, fighting a family feud, or romancing stunning Rajo. Written by L. Hamre

A full on entertainer - Salman at his very best!
2 February 2012 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

One of my biggest complains with regards to Salman Khan was that I always felt that it was Salman Khan in the film and that he would never go into depth of the character. His dialogues, accent and style would come across the same in all of his films, BUT at last a film I can say where this isn't the case!!

Dabangg is a full on entertainer from start to finish, and delivers one of the best films Bollywood has seen in a long time. Dabangg rides on the power of Salman Khan and boy does he deliver! Salman is at his total best, delivering one of his best performances to date. What I loved was how he changed himself for this role - he looked trimmer, spoke in more of a UP dialect, walked and talked like a corrupt police offer, and romanced Sonakshi in an innocent, but naughty manner. He is the scene stealer every time and his fighting scenes are brilliant!

Arbaaz Khan has come out with of his best performances since Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya. He takes a back seat and allows his brother to take the lead, but he matches Salman scene for scene. To produce and act in the film - you must give him a lot of credit.

Sonakshi Sinha is certainly a new talent in the business but I felt she was a little overrated, perhaps because she's the great Shatrughan Sinha's daughter? Who knows! However her role didn't require anything out of the normal for a debut actor, but nevertheless she did very well to keep up with Salman.

Sonu Sood is simply fantastic!! This guy has come a very long way since his first film Aashiq Banaye Aapne. His performances in Jodha Akbaar and Dabangg will take him a long way, and show that he has a place in the industry. He certainly doesn't have hero qualities, but as a supporting actor or villain he will win many hearts!

Other notable performances are of course Dimple Khanna, Vinod Khanna and Om Puri.

Overall Dabangg is a winner! It does very well due to Salman's star power but he is supported well by the others in the film. The music also plays a big part to it's success. Each song is perfect for the film, and comes in the film at perfect times. I've have rated Dabangg 9 out of 10 purely on it's entertainment level.
