The Vine Swings to Alexander Skarsgard to Play Tarzan

15 November 2012 12:00 AM, PST | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

Update: Alexander Skargard (Battleship) appears to be the top choice to play the title character in Warner Brothers TarzanDavid Yates, the director of four of the Harry Potter movies, is helming the post-jungle Tarzan story, replacing Craig Brewer. WB's Tarzan reboot follows the jungle man years after he's joined society and now goes by the name John Clayton III. Queen Victoria asks him to go back to the Congo to investigate what's going on - and there he teams up with an ex-mercenary to save the land from a diamond warlord.

Additionally, Samuel L. Jackson is in talks to play an undisclosed supporting role.

This is different from the Summit project which is staying true to the original Edgar Rice Burroughs story -- except that it's in motion capture and 3D (see below).

Teaser Poster For Motion Capture 3D ‘Tarzan’

10 October 2012 11:30 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Last week saw the arrival of a teaser trailer for the upcoming Tarzan film which is presneted in 3D via motion capture technology. It looked a bit lifeless, but it is from a smaller German company and not one of the heavy hitters in animation. Now we have a teaser poster. The film stars Kellan Lutz as Tarzan, the man brought up by apes. Reinhard Klooss, the man behind the hardly amazing Animals United (2010) is directing. Still too early to tell on this one and with so many adaptations of Tarzan, do we need yet another one?

Tarzan is released next summer. It stars Kellan Lutz, Spencer Locke, Jaime Ray Newman, Robert Capron, Mark Deklin, and Trevor St. John.

Kellan Lutz Will Beat His Chest as 'Tarzan'

3 May 2012 7:52 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Kellan Lutz: From the Lord of the Sea to the King of the Jungle.

The "Immortals" star will soon be swinging from a vine as he's signed on to play the title role in a new version of "Tarzan," according to Deadline.

This new take on the classic adventure character will be directed by Reinhard Klooss ("Animals United") from a script by Jessica Postigo (who will be adapting the upcoming "The Mortal Instruments") and Yoni Brenner ("Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs"). "Tarzan" will also follow in the footsteps of Disney's recent take on "A Christmas Carol" as a fully animated CGI feature that utilizes motion capture performance.

So, sorry, ladies — that bare chest is going to look a little cartoonish.

The project is being set up at Constantin Films, which is currently at least one step ahead of Warner Bros., which has also been looking to do a "Tarzan" movie. »
