Stormy stormy night. I love that this show goes for classic horror movie atmosphere from time to time. If it's not copious amounts of fog, then it's dark stormy nights. Anna loves storms? No, Jeremy, it's not "a vampire thing", it's just a regular weird human thing. Heh, Dracula was a "complete wuss". Loved the way Anna said he was "very smelly" (due to his non-showering).
Nice to know that Elena has accepted the fact that Damon's a "self-serving psychopath with no redeeming qualities". I liked hers and Stefan's "He just makes me so cranky!"/"Oh, I know, he makes everybody cranky." exchange (in regards to Damon), though I wasn't too fond of Stefan saying Elena was going to do exactly what she *didn't* want to do (ie.sit at the Salvatores' place and do nothing).
Damon's "I left two litres of soccer mum in the fridge." and then his line about the squirrels to Stefan were both amusing. Interesting that, for a vampire to get back his strength, he goes running in the woods in the rain...in a hoodie. Too bad he got staked (though, lucky for him, not fatally) by bad vamp & co. Damon's "You're not gonna like what I'm thinking." line to Elena was really...off. It just sounded bad. Though I did like his threat of "Open this door or I swear to God I'll bust through and rip your head off!", I could take or leave his "You are dead!" line to bad vamp. I mean, I appreciated the fact that Damon hated to see Stefan suffering, but that threat was rather lame (for Damon anyway). At least it's clear that he really *does* care about his brother (no one gets to torture Stefan but him). I really enjoyed Damon's scene with Elena in the rain.
Vervain in the eyeballs? Nasty! Stefan was certainly getting his Jack Bauer on (with the shirtless torture).
I liked Damon's line to Alaric ("Well, don't you look...alive.") and the tension in the scene.
Enjoyed Anna explaining to dim Jeremy the reasons why vampires turn people into vampires and her not wanting to give him a "Pity turn". Oh no...the return of jerky Tyler. Things had been so pleasant without him. I was hoping he would just stay gone. No such luck, apparently. What purpose does he serve exactly? I hated how condescending Damon was towards Elena in the scene where Alaric showed off his weapons to them (that sounds dirty). His "You can drive the getaway car." to Elena was especially infuriating and his "I know. I get it. I understand." line was a little redundant, wasn't it? Alaric did a good acting job as the guy whose car broke down and he needed to make a phone call. Damon was his typical murderous self when he killed the home owner of the house so he could gain entry. It's almost unsurprising now, when he kills some innocent without a second thought.
Although it was risky for Elena to do what she did, at the same time, I appreciate that she didn't want to just sit in the car like everyone wanted her too. She's capable, and I'm glad she played a real/proper part in rescuing Stefan. I liked Damon's fight with the vampires (he can certainly take on a few at a time).
I was VERY happy to see Elena stab bad vamp (especially after what he'd done to Stefan). That was a pretty awesome scene, where Elena allowed Stefan to feed on her. Good on Alaric for knowing Damon had been lying to him (about helping him find his wife). I was glad to see bad vamp finally bite the dust. Felt sorry for Elena AND Stefan when he was in a frenzy and she saw how he could lose control (even for just a moment). Nina and Paul were both really excellent with their reactions in this scene and were equally awesome in the following one.
FINALLY everybody found out about dead Vicki! Hallelujah! (Though WHY did the Salvatores dump her body in the woods and not just simply burn it so no evidence could be found? Not too bright). Really good reactions from Matt, Matt's mum and Elena (and I don't fault Matt for wanting to seek comfort from his childhood friend - Elena - when he found out about Vicki. Sucks for Caroline to see him hugging Elena for comfort instead of her...but there you go). I was glad Alaric punched Damon when he tried to be all chummy with him at the bar. As I've said before, Damon deserves everything he gets (and more!).
Felt sorry for Anna at the end there, when she figured out the only reason Jeremy wanted to be a vamp was so he could be with Vicki. I'm sure she'll get all vengeful on his ass.
And what a great "Oh, crap!" ending to the episode. Stefan's addicted to human blood now? Damon's expression said it all. Should be interesting to see where it goes. This was another really solid episode. I just wish we'd gotten more Melinda Clarke.
