The only reason
dtcoghill14 October 2020
You only reason I rated it eight stars because it's actually a full 10 star series, because after the first 14 episodes the English translation and closed captions stopped. So the rest of the series you had to just imagine by their facial expressions and body language what the story was about. Please subtitle all episodes in English!

A well executed classic
mosquitocyn20 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I've not completed this series yet but I'm so caught up in it now. It has magical music, singing, raw emotions and good acting and script writing. You get caught up with the development of the female lead character from a rough girl who sells flowers in the streets to an elegant lady who can sing beautifully, understand music, command the stage and make the decision to live for herself. The series shows colorful scenes and lives of those who live in the poorest districts and also of the lives of those who live in luxury. I'm not even halfway through the series and I think more beautiful developments await as a triangle romance blooms and choices have to be made. I've yet to see how fame and wealth will affect the female lead and how the story goes. It's good that there's also comedy in the series to make it light and happy. I had a peak at the ending and am glad it is a happy ending. I can't stomach sad endings much. Certainly recommend this series.

Love story with great Cast and expressed Music
aelmansjos9 August 2023
The plot Gonulcelen is about a flower girl from a working-class district of Istanbul, who will later work her way up to a very famous singer.

Both the story and especially the music give a faithful picture of how people interact with each other in a large society on a daily basis. My view after seeing this series is that it is very long-winded, and after a while it gets boring to watch. The continuous turning between Murat and Hacet is boring and dominates the boredom in the series. This story could just as well have been put down in 30 instead of 56 episodes. Not to mention that at the time of shooting this series, a wedding was in prospect between Levent and Hasret. I actually mean to say between Onur and Tuba in 2012. For Tuba's career, her role in this one was a very good entry.

magical combination of music & comedy & romance
s-bron-pink727 July 2011
This is more than just a musical comedy romantic series it's about Turkish culture especially the gypsy people, and the differences between rich and poor people, that happiness doesn't come only from money and fame and that moral value is much more important.

it shows that being classy doesn't mean fancy clothes and stylish appearance, it simply how to behave in classy way and rise in your morals like Murat.

it discussed a very important point which is the difference between real and classy art and cheap art. the soundtrack it used was divine and touch the soul and all the songs were amazing.

it presented deep feeling and emotions in a classy way and answer the eternal question: which is more important, saying I love you or making you feel it with each action i do???

it's true that the show have some mistakes but it wasn't that serious and didn't affect it's overall value.

greatness comes with simplicity and this is what u did with this show, you give us an example of pure love. Murat& Hasret made us explore & learn new prospectives in life, made us laugh and melt, and made us cry but even their pain had a different sweet taste. your are the BEST classic love legend EVER

thanks to all the cast for their outstanding performance, especially TUBA & CANCEL

"Gönülçelen"
takolacioni11 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
"Gönülçelen" is one of my favorite TV series. I watched this film due to Tuba Buyukustun and i discover very talented actor Cansel Elcin. The plot is based of well known story written by Bernard Shaw. The cast is perfect, i was amazed to watch their playing, especially the main characters, Tuba and Cansel made fantastic job. I can say without any hesitation that i am in love Murat hoca . I am really thankful for the director of this film Cevdet Mercan for this beautiful and well done job. I have seen few Turkish series in my life and to addition it is too odd for me, but now i start to watch the whole day this film. I wish all the best Tuba and Cansel, they are very talented and successful persons. I really wish to see them together again:))).

A beautiful love story expressed through Music
rica-3080410 September 2020
I watched this because I am a fan of Tuba Buyukustun. I really think that she is like Audrey Hepburn and she is like a princess :-)

I love how they always put some real life characteristics of her in her tv series like here her love and support for children as shown in the music foundation for children and I read somewhere that one of her wish is to be a singer ( IWC interview ).

I discovered Cancel Elcin who is so so so charming when he stares at her, nods his head and looks at her and smiles!!!!

I super love the main story of Gonulcelen and I wish they gave more airtime for Murat (Cancel Elcin ) and Hasret ( Tuba Buyukustun ). It started out so well with the main story then their romance, then I found the middle part too long when they were not together :-( I wish they could edit it ( and I am sure this will be a super hit ) and put it on netlfix with the correct english subtitles. - I am a fan from the Philippines :-) and I wish there were more Tuba Buyukustun shows in Netflix.

Gönülçelen and the screenplay
mmtor10 December 2010
Gönülçelen though inspired by Bernard Shaw's play 'Pygmalion' and its film adaptation 'My Fair Lady', is now , after 30 episodes, very far from the original story, and disappointed many people. Murat, the rich and well-educated musician and academician, has transformed Hasret, the poor and uneducated flower girl into a talented singer in such a short time. After this transformation now the screenplay created a twin sister of Murat's ex-girlfriend and a revenge vs love story, and a love triangle between best friends , Murat and Levent, Hasret's manager and Murat's best friend, and Hasret. The actors and actresses are very talented in this series but unfortunately the screenplay is very poorly written. At times I personally feel sorry for the time of the actors and actresses. Especially after prominent roles in successful TV series "Kırık Kanatlar" and "Hatırla Sevgili", we would like to see Cansel Elcin in more successfully written scenes, hopefully in a movie with a well written story soon.

Tuba made it watchable
mickyorlandea17 August 2021
Her poor character was in love with a wooden log. She gave this series color, fun, beauty, comedy, love, persistence, resistance, all in the right measures. Well done Tuba. Oh, just watching her collect the many dropped books from the school's long entry stairs.

Charming comedy
ardelacampagne17 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The love is very obvious between the two main characters, Hasret and Murat, wonderfully played by Tuba Buyukustun and Cansel Elçin, respectively. They both have longing looks that melt our hearts, especially when she sings and he plays the piano. Their deep connection transcends everything. Both actors are so invested in their roles that we believe every word they utter. Murat has unfortunately a very hovering and contrarian mother (Ayda Aksel) and a crazy assistant (Bahar) and Hasret has family issues of her own. These could have been resolved at some point. I just did not understand the long interlude (some 40 episodes!) about the love triangle that developed between Murat's supposedly best friend, Levent (Onur Saylak), who suddenly became interested in Hasret, after Murat got very angry with her and stated he had it. Levent just could not grasp that Murat was still madly in love with Hasret and attempted to conquer her heavy-handedly. Perhaps he did not want her musical talent go to waste, or was driven by his rivalry with Murat or was just blinded by her exceptional beauty. In any case, Levant never listened to what Hasret had to say, paid attention to what she felt, what she wanted, etc. He constantly imposed his ideas on her, whereas she obviously did not seem attracted, showing clearly that this kind of lopsided love would not work. After a series of mishaps and some very funny and goofy scenes (the cake at the restaurant, the university classes), our heroes came back to their sense and finally reconnected. Levent also discovered real love, fortunately, in the bubbly personality of Ceren. I just did not pay too much attention to the secondary characters, some of whom were touching (like Hasret's brother Kadir or her mother Saime) but others annoying (Kobra) to the point of being a dissonant intrusion. I still recommend highly this charming comedy that is very endearing because of, once again, the exceptional chemistry between Tuba Buyukustun and Cansel Elçin and their incredible acting talents.
