Great series conclusion
29 May 2010 | by (United Kingdom) – See all my reviews

When this series of Shameless began I wasn't too optimistic but now it is over I realise my worries where unfounded and it turned out to be a great series with great comedy, tragedy and drama. In this final episode the main thread is finally resolved; Joe has persuaded Karen to run away with him, all he has to do first is kidnap baby Connor. In order to get the Maguire boys out of the way he calls Roscoe; a gangster who was robbed by the Maguires in a previous episode. Roscoe starts throwing his weight around in The Jockey despite the fact that there is a policeman there to supervise a "guns for vodka" programme organised by Libby. This leads to an hilarious scene at the end where Mickey attempts to get his hands on the guns so he can save his brothers from Roscoe. While this episode largely follows the Maguires and Karen and Joe this doesn't mean there aren't any good scenes featuring the Gallaghers; an early scene where Mandy is attacked leads to Ian capturing the attacker and shooting him... with a water pistol. There is also a surprise for Mimi although I won't spoil that here.

Like the series as a whole this episode was a great balance of comedy and tragedy which nicely resolved Karen's story in a way that may have set up a new story for Ian. Despite the various cast changes over the years I'm still enjoying it and look forward to the eighth series.
