Storyline

Since childhood, Lisa Kudrow has known that her grandmother Gertrude had it tough. Gertrude's mother, Meri, perished in the Holocaust. Lisa's father recalls hearing about her death from a young Polish sailor, a cousin named Yuri who was last seen in New York in the late 1940s. Lisa's father never forgot Yuri for warning him and his family to leave their village for safety before the Nazi army invasion. From Los Angeles to Belarus, to the actual village where Meri once lived, Lisa's journey reveals clues leading her to something neither she nor her father ever thought possible. Good TV - but not genealogy
21 March 2010 | by (Australia) – See all my reviews

This was the third episode of the series and, in my view, the most emotional. I had hoped that we would get through the series without the inevitable Holocaust story but here it was - just another reminder for us Gentiles of what happened in World War 2. Perhaps I am wrong but I was under the impression that the series was about genealogy and the efforts of celebrities to find their ancestors. However, it seems that it only scratches the surface and only provides sensationalist stories from the past. As a genealogist myself, I would do more than just look at the potentially interesting relatives but at both parents and grand parents, etc. of the subject. From my perspective, it was a nice story

  • good television - but genealogy it was not.
