Billy Ray Cyrus on TV Comeback: 'It's All About Reinvention'

9 June 2016 11:28 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Two dozen years ago, Billy Ray Cyrus was America's best-selling musician.

Nirvana's Nevermind, Michael Jackson's Dangerous and Whitney Houston's Bodyguard soundtrack all spent time at the top of the Billboard charts in 1992, but nothing remained there as long as Cyrus' debut, Some Gave All, which sold more copies that year than any artist in any genre. Then, as quickly as he'd rocketed to the top, Cyrus began to free-fall out of pop-culture consciousness, taking everything that his now-infamous music video for "Achy Breaky Heart" had so enthusiastically endorsed »

5 Daytime Comedy Shows You Need to DVR

29 May 2016 9:00 AM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

The problem with "life" and "responsibilities" and all those other things that require frowny-faced finger quotes is that they keep you from sitting at home all day eating ice cream directly from the carton and watching the best comedy that daytime TV has to offer. It's an issue.

Thankfully, the miraculous ability to DVR shows has visited us from the future, allowing us to balance that whole responsibility mess with the thing that's really most important in our lives: The LOLs. So here's how you can catch them while you're out doing all that dumb stuff like working a "job" and "making a living."

'Archer' (2010 - )

Though "Archer" lives on in nighttime TV, it has become a daytime syndication staple -- and all "Archer" is good "Archer," no matter what time it happens. We can't put it any better than Den of Geek's James Stanfield: "It's like MI5 run by Dunder Mifflin. »

Oscar winner Cloris Leachman just turned 90 on April 30, and she can't f--king believe it either.

The actress has been working steadily in Hollywood since the mid-1950s, with a filmography so long it would take another 90 years to read it. She's known for her TV roles in "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and the spinoff "Phyllis," plus "The Beverly Hillbillies," "The Facts of Life," "Malcolm in the Middle," and "Raising Hope"; and film roles in "Young Frankenstein," "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," "Spanglish," "The Wedding Ringer," and "The Last Picture Show," where she picked up her Academy Award. Leachman was also the oldest contestant to compete on "Dancing With the Stars," at age 82 in DWTS Season 7.

"Crazy Cloris" was a hoot then, and she seems just as sassy now. Check out her birthday cake, which she showed off on Twitter after thanking fans for their kind wishes, and gently »

The Real O’Neals Review

29 February 2016 2:54 PM, PST | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

The Real O’Neals has an uphill battle on its hands, and it’s the same battle that has faced such shows as The Middle, and Martha Plimpton‘s last series, Raising Hope. Unfortunately, it’s the same battle that has also faced countless shows that you don’t remember, because most shows these days can’t overcome the degree of difficulty.

The problem these shows face is that they need a while to get going, and there’s nothing about the pilot that’s going to suck you in enough to demand that you not only watch, but pull your friends along as well.

As if the genre of television shows that are ultimately “hanging with a family” isn’t dated enough, and tricky enough to get off the ground, The Real O’Neals focuses on the irritating world of holier-than-thous, and puts them through the ringer.

The Real O’Neals Season 1 Review

24 February 2016 1:31 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Four episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

You’ve met the O’Neals before. They’re the happily Catholic, bustling brood of contemporary dysfunction that sitcoms have been pushing since sound came out of television sets. There’s the straight-laced cop dad, the Old Testament mom, the doltish older sibling, the young child prodigy, and the proverbial Malcolm in every middle. New setting. New characters. New theme song. Rinse. Repeat.

ABC’s new sitcom The Real O’Neals focuses on such a family who — as the eloquent cold open of an infamous MTV reality show once put it — decide to find out what happens when people stop being polite, and start getting real (see what they did there?). What most of this boils down to is a lot of sitcom fodder that’s largely innocuous and forgotten in its own continuity within an episode. But what’s left over is a comedy that, »
