Back in the business
Tweekums14 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
As this episode opens we see a flashback to events that took place during season one; we are shown how Jesse blew most of the money Walt gave him to buy the RV and champagne and some good time girls with Skinny Pete and Combo then got the RV by stealing it from Combo's mother. This is relevant as Hank is checking every RV of that type registered in the state; it will be a long search but ultimately it will lead him to Combo's mother and then Jesse will be back on his radar thanks to a photo at the house. While this is going on Gus approaches Walt with a very tempting offer; if he accepts he won't be booking in the back of an RV again; he'll have his own industrial lab to work in. This offer, if accepted, will put Jesse out of business as Gus only agreed to let him supply him to wound Walt's professional pride; a strategy that worked admirably.

It isn't just the men who have things going on in their lives; Skyler starts to wonder why she is really sleeping with Ted as she knows it won't go anywhere and Marie is concerned about Hank; he says he turned down the El Paso job because the case in Albuquerque was more important to him but she is sure the horrific events on the border have affected him more than he cares to admit.

This is another quality episode... I feel I should stop bothering to say that as so far I don't think I've been disappointed by a single instalment! The acting is great as always; I particularly liked Giancarlo Esposito's understated performance as Gus; I'm pleased that it looks as if his character is going to be getting more air time. Another actor in a small role; Steven Michael Quezada who plays Hank's partner Steven Gomez has performed well in the role throughout the series but now it seems likely that he will be leaving as he is off to El Paso; this is speculation though as I don't want to risk spoilers finding out if he is in later episodes! The story seems to be stepping up a gear as Walt and Jesse go there separate ways and Hank gets a lead pointing him towards Jesse; I'm certainly looking forward to seeing where that storyline heads.

A man provides!
and_mikkelsen11 April 2023
That was one great monologue from Gustavo Fring and It was just what Walt needed to realize that he can take care of his family even if he gets nothing in return! Its not about what other people think of you, its about you knowing that you did what you thought was right!

Skyler and Marie also has this small but great talk about how seeing death changes a man! They come around the subject while talking about Hank.. but we realize how much Walt has changed.. seeing death and taking a life!

The episode also shows how complex the relationship between Walt and Jesse is, as well as showing Hank, a man under preassure.. but also getting closer and closer to the truth!

Jesse and Hank and Walter and Skyler
Hitchcoc3 May 2018
This has two plot lines going. The continuing saga of Skyler and Walter and the divorce. Skyler makes a devastating discovery when cleaning up the room where Walter is staying. Hank continues his relentless search for the RV that was the methmobile. That means eyes on Jesse. It seems only a matter of time. And Walter is given a huge opportunity. Jesse is a liability. Hank's efforts are now an obsession. Things keep moving on a grander scale.

Really, really slowly, we're getting closer to the show's former strength
stillworkingfortheknife11 November 2013
After a nice retrospective introduction, "Más" finds its best moments in the emerged conflict between Walt and Jesse. The ever growing a-hole Walt can't take a joke once it's about his meth formula and it almost seems as if not even Saul's and Gus's interventions can calm the situation. But as I said: it seems. Gus has conceived of a phenomenal plan that involves the most glamorous meth lab to ever be on television and through this, we get to see his real power for the first time in the series.

In slightly related matters, Hank is determined to follow the small trail Jesse has given him and we can watch him getting a bit closer to the huge criminal business going down under his very nose. Anyway, I again didn't like this story part (eventually finding the right RV at the second search – seriously?) and would have hoped to see Bryan Cranston a bit more often. For the small amount of scenes he was in though, he did a great job and excelled in being the bad guy. However, it looks quite different at the White household where you could, if you're being overhasty, sense harmony and piece. What really impressed me – not only in these scenes – was the subtlety with which emotions and ambiances were conveyed.

Thus, the ups were clearly in abundance over the downs with "Más" and – almost more importantly – the episode showed the right direction for the ones after it.

Faster-Paced Episode!
g-bodyl30 August 2014
This is the fifth episode of the third season of Breaking Bad, and this time around things are starting to catch on fire. While the tepid pace is still evident at times, it's a faster-paced episode on the whole as interesting events begin to unfold. The acting is fabulous as always especially from the ever-great Bryan Cranston.

In this episode, "Mas," a rift was created between Jesse and Walt because Walt received half of the share of Jesse's meth. Gus is trying to get Walt to cook again as he gives Walt his own brand-new lab. Meanwhile, Skylar is beginning to doubt her relationship with Ted and Hank is ruining his career prospects as he is trying to chase down the RV.

Overall, another excellent episode as things are beginning to heat up. I am mostly interested in what will happen with Hank as his career is beginning to spiral. As everyone story goes, I definitely can't wait to see what happens. I rate this episode 9/10.

Not the windshield!
Trey_Trebuchet16 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very good. Was feeling a strong 8 with this one, and then the last ten minutes eased it up to a 9.

This series has brought me to a point where I find the drama just as entertaining as the actual dealing, mayhem and chaos. Anna Gunn is excellent in this episode. I really thought everyone was.

Skyler's dilemma is Understandable and feels a bit more full-circled here. I must admit that, despite how much I disapprove of Walt's choices, seeing Skyler's reaction to the signed divorce forms was so, so heartbreaking. There's so much love between the two of them still, despite the bickering and divide.

The relationship between Walt and Jesse feels so weird this season. They aren't together most of the time, and it looks like it may be a short while before they get cooking again. I can't believe Walt has to get the windshield fixed AGAIN.

Hank's story is really fascinating. I hate the way he's acting and tearing his friends and wife, but I'm especially excited to see where this new evidence takes him. Poor Marie.

A sad episode, but still a very entertaining one as well. I've got a feeling the crap is about to hit the fan real soon.

Más (#3.5)

Warning: Spoilers
And Hank gets to the RV. It gets more exciting now. I really liked them showing us the flashback about how Jesse got the RV in the first place. So he just wasted the money Walt gave to him in a strip bar and then had Combo still his mother's RV. Great ending when Hank finds Combo's picture with Jesse.

Besides this Walt is back to cooking. He is in, Jesse is out. Although I doubt Jesse will stay out for long. I like them creating such a conflict between the characters.

And this episode had some great acting. I can't even tell who was best, every single individual on this show made a brilliant performance in this episode.

Enthralling

Warning: Spoilers
Episode five is a really decent one that moves the story on in ways which are both surprising and efficient. Jesse's new volatility adds plenty of drama and Saul is an amazing character I can't get enough of. Hank becomes more of a main player here while Walter seems to be descending to the dark side at a rapid pace. Enthralling stuff.

More
TheLittleSongbird7 June 2018
'Breaking Bad' is one of the most popular rated shows on IMDb, is one of those rarities where every season has either been very positively received or near-universally acclaimed critically and where all of my friends have said nothing but great things about.

Very few shows in recent memory had me so hooked from the very start that before the week was over the whole show had been watched, especially when for a lot of shows now airing watching one episode all the way through can be an endeavour. 'Breaking Bad' had that effect on me, and its reputation as one of the best, consistently brilliant and most addictive shows in many years (maybe even ever) is more than deserved in my eyes. Its weakest season is perhaps the first season, understandable as any show's first season is the one where things are still settling.

Actually everything is established remarkably from the very start, but once the writing and characterisation becomes even meatier the show reaches even higher levels.

"Mas" is more 'Breaking Bad' excellence, even if it may lack the red-hot intensity and tautness of the best of Seasons 1 and especially 2. Yet it is a slower-paced episode that still engrosses and doesn't get dull, it just lacks the extra something.

Visually, "Mas" is both stylish and beautiful, with photography and editing that are cinematic quality and put a lot of films today to shame, where there are a lot of visually beautiful ones but also some painfully amateurish looking ones. The music always has the appropriate mood, never too intrusive, never too muted.

The writing in "Mas" is a fine example of how to have a lot of style but also to have a lot of substance. The dialogue throughout is thought-provoking and tense, while also have a darkly wicked sense of humour, nail-biting tension and heart-tugging pathos. The story is texturally rich, intimate, tense and layered, with the pace of it consistently deliberate but taut.

Can't say anything bad about the acting. Bryan Cranston is phenomenal as one of the most fascinating anti-heroes, or even of any kind of character, in either film or television. Aaron Paul has never been better and Anna Gunn is affecting. Dean Norris is terrific support. The characters are compelling in their realism and the episode is strongly directed.

In summary, great once again. 9/10 Bethany Cox

This quote itself earned a 10 star rating
Genkinchan31 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Gustavo Fring take the lead here in Season 3 as the main protagonists against Walter white and Jesse Pinkman.. the quote itself just blown me away inspiring quote indeed.... A man provides. And he does it even when he's not appreciated, or respected, or even loved. He simply bears up and he does it because he's a man''...

Secondly this season have more drama than action yet adding in Gus, Saul and Mike as the series regular is the best decision for season 3.

A new work place... and an RV in trouble
bellino-angelo201416 December 2023
When the episode begins there is a flashback from the first episode when Walter White gave Jesse Pinkman the money for buying the RV but Jesse spent most of the money in a night club, only to obtain the vehicle at a low price stealing it from Combo.

Fast forward to the present: Jesse asks Walter half of his money and Walt has to accept an offer from Gus Fring of working in a new underground laboratory even tho Walter lost his family because of his meth production. After a while Walt goes to Jesse with the money and has accepted Fring's offer to work in his underground lab (and will make Skylar found the divorce papers signed). In the meanwhile Hank Schrader searches for the RV and in the end he finally finds out about our RV because after learning that it was stolen from Combo Hank connects the dots that Combo was friends with Jesse.

This episode's plot was a bit too intricated for my taste, the scene where Jesse threw a rock on Walter's car windshield didn't make a lot of sense and the scene of Skylar finding the divorce papers signed unexpected. Still, Hank had various funny moments as usual and we are introduced to the new locations for the episodes to come.

Gus's "Provides" speech is when BB crouches, flexes and prepares to JUMP THE SHARK
daddysarm20 January 2022
We all know it will eventually. Shows like this always do. If they don't continually up the ante, the core fans wonder how it got boring. I was actually surprised it took this long. I had figured mid-Season2. It lasted til mid-3. Well done.

But, Walt's obsession with "providing" for his "family" even after his wife makes it clear she doesn't consider him family has been dragging it down for awhile. Likewise, Hank's obsession with blue meth has been a head-scratcher. I guess, in 3 words, BB is about obsessive self-destructers. Que sera.

Anna Gunn is FANTASTIC!
Red_Identity3 March 2011
For all of the awards and nominations that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have received (which they DO deserve) there is another castmember who is also fantastic. Anna Gunn has been playing Skyler for some time now and she really knows how to hit deep with her emotions and plays her perfectly. We know what White has done, but we still feel for him. We are seeing what Skyler is doing now, yet we still feel for her for different reasons. Gunn proves that this is the best ensemble cast working right now. Not to forget Dean Norris, whose character has become almost just as equally mentally unstable and who is also surprising week by week. This is a shout-out to those more underrated performers in the show.
