Wonderful Film
mike-ambs3 June 2016
Oakley Anderson-Moore - mountain-climber and documentarian - recently premiered her first feature film, 'Brave New Wild', in Los Angeles to a sold-out theater. I attended the special screening event, having only previously seen bits and pieces of the film (as a work-in-progress). BRAVE NEW WILD shared a layered and powerful story of searching for meaning in the most dangerous and uncharted of places, and the inspiring 'dirtbags' who left their mark before, during and after the golden era of climbing. And how her Father left what he knew of that world for her to rediscover in old family VHS tapes - in that way, BNW is Oakley's first assent, an artists statement left behind for future generations.

Spoiler Alert: If you've seen Valley Uprising, you don't want to see this

Warning: Spoilers
Epic Fail.

I paid $14 to essentially see Valley Uprising for a second time :-/ About half the news clips and interviews already had been done in Valley Uprising. My friends already have the DVD for Valley Uprising, so I could've just watched it for free. The creator/director missed the mark in attempting to make her personal connection to the history of climbing in Yosemite. Furthermore, her narration voice is a great voice for a room full of lip-readers. I wish I had been sitting in an aisle seat so I could have easily walked out of this movie. Some others actually had, though it could have been reasons external to the movie quality itself.
