At the age of 9, Abraham Lincoln witnesses his mother being killed by a vampire, Jack Barts. Some 10 years later, he unsuccessfully tries to eliminate Barts but in the process makes the acquaintance of Henry Sturgess who teaches him how to fight and what is required to kill a vampire. The quid pro quo is that Abe will kill only those vampires that Henry directs him to. Abe relocates to Springfield where he gets a job as a store clerk while he studies the law and kills vampires by night. He also meets and eventually marries the pretty Mary Todd. Many years later as President of the United States, he comes to realize that vampires are fighting with the Confederate forces. As a result he mounts his own campaign to defeat them. Written by

At the end of the film, when Lincoln says goodbye to Henry, his wife Mary called him saying that they will be late for the theater. That going to the theater was the last of Lincoln, as he was assassinated in Ford's Theatre in Washington by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. See more »

When Abe expresses to Henry an interest in becoming a vampire hunter, the year should have been, based on chronological clues (the year of Abe's mother's death, 1818, etc) sometime in the late 1820s. Henry, however, shows Abe a magic lantern slide show including several photographic portraits. As of the late 1820s, only the most primitive, experimental, still photographs requiring extremely long exposure times were possible. The Daguerreotype wasn't introduced until 1838 or so, with the first known photographic portraits being taken around that time. See more »

Abraham Lincoln:
[voice-over]
History prefers legends to men. It prefers nobility to brutality, soaring speeches to quiet deeds. History remembers the battle, but forgets the blood. Whatever history remembers me, if it remembers me at all, it shall only remember a fraction of the truth. For what ever else I am, a husband, a lawyer... a President... I shall always think of myself as a man who struggled against the darkness.

In the Nineteenth Century, the nine-year-old boy Abraham Lincoln witness the vampire Jack Barts (Marton Csokas) sucking the blood and killing his mother. Years later, Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) seeks revenges against Jack Barts but he fails in his intent of killing the vampire. He is saved by Henry Sturges (Dominic Cooper), who becomes his mentor and teaches how to hunt and kill vampires. Henry sends Abraham to Springfield to kill vampires. He gets a job and lodging in the store of Joshua Speed (Jimmi Simpson) where he meets his black friend Will Johnson (Anthony Mackie). Abraham also dates Mary Todd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) but keeps his vampire hunter business in secret. After killing Jack Bart, he calls the attention of the powerful and ancient vampire Adam (Rufus Sewell). Abraham becomes a politician and the President of the United States, and sooner the leader of the Secession War against the vampires.
"Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is a funny silliness with the President of US Abraham Lincoln. I do not understand the reason why the writer uses one prominent personality to write this non-sense story but the adventure is entertaining. I would never go to the movie theater to see this movie, but if the viewer has minimum expectations or curiosity like me, it can be watched on DVD. My vote is five.
