As the episode opens, we find Toni and LaDonna in court. Judge Gatlinis clearly outraged by the police inefficiency in locating LaDonna's brother Daymo, who has disappeared from the face of the earth without anyone having a clue to what happened to him. The judge gives an order to get back to him within 72 hours, then he proceeds to apologize to Daymo's mother and sister.
Albert Lambreaux has had it with the situation in his home town. With a group of friends, he cuts some of the fencing of the projects that remain inhabited, even though the buildings suffered no damage. He wants to make a statement, but for that he needs all the attention he can get. He calls the media as well as the police. The news people arrive before the police, a right strategy to get what Albert wants. When other people start to move, there is no other way than to arrest the man that has challenged the public force.
Creighton is an unhappy man. In his class at Tulane, he cites an author from the past. This man wrote he would have rather live in poverty in New Orleans than in Ohio, where he came from. Creighton relates to this story. Going home, he tries to work on his novel. Instead, he produces a video that he downloads on line. In it, he expresses his frustrations over an inept government.
Antoine has been playing with his fellow unemployed musicians at the New Orleans airport. One woman wonders what is the occasion by asking Antoine. He in turn, asks the lady where is she from. When she answers from New Orleans, he tells her they are playing for her. On a second day, Antoine is surprised to see Troy Andrews coming from a trip. As he passes by, Troy offers to jam with the musicians. Antoine runs to the hospital to see his friend Danny Nelson. On the second time, he notices an empty bed, realizing he had died.
Annie, who still plays with Sonny in the streets, is approached by Harley, a good intentioned individual, who sees potential in the way she plays. There is an opening with a Cajun band that is big locally, as well as in Quebec. Unfortunately, her audition goes wrong as she is either too nervous, or just does not want to leave Sonny alone.
Davis McAlary has been selling a lot of his CDs. He is asked by Bernard Williams, a judge, help him win votes by looking the other way. He hands out his card with the promise it will get him out of jail next time. Davis realizes Jeanette has to sell everything, when he goes looking for her at her restaurant. She has decided to get a portable grill and a trailer and just work on the streets. That way, there is no overhead, and other expenses.
Finally Toni and LaDonna get to locate Daymo. To their surprise, Daymo has been misidentified with the name of a cousin. LaDonna recognizing the name thinks it is her brother. They go to the area where the inmates bodies are kept in refrigerated trailers. To her horror, LaDonna identified Daymo. One thing though, she will not break the news to her mother, and family, until after Mardi Gras.
A fine episode in this surprising new series. The late David Mills and Eric Overmyer, one of the creators of "Treme" collaborated with the screenplay. The direction is by Simon Cellan Jones, who gets ensemble work from a diversity of actors seen in this chapter. John Goodman shines as Creighton. Khandi Alexander, Kim Dickens, Melissa Leo, Lucia Micarelli, and specially Clarke Peters are the reason for our enjoyment in watching this series.
