There's some nice elements in here.Ailsa's maternal attitude towards Lynn and her and Alf practically acting like parents to Nico are nicely played scenes, followed by Alf's showdown with Don, which has been long overdue.Lynn's lie to Nico and Lance and Martin's plan to use him seem to be stirring up trouble in the long run...Neville's use of the phrase "nutter" is highly relevant in retrospect.
Sally's brief period "on the run" and her interaction with Steven and Floss is incredibly cute, a nice way of using the characters who are perhaps among the less well-defined and integrated among the main cast.
But the main thrust of the episode is the relationship between Alf and Ailsa, from their sweet nervousness around each other as they effectively arrange a date to Alf's unromantic but hilariously in-character proposal.Never before has his status as a good-natured, kind-hearted man who can't quite the hang of the "touchy feely stuff" been obvious, which makes the ending all the more heart-warming.
