Weekend Box-Office: 'The Hobbit' Retains #1 with 'Django' Topping 'Les Mis' for #2

30 December 2012 8:16 AM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

It was a tough weekend to predict which film would come out on top. Would The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey be able to hang on in the face of a 56.3% drop last weekend? Could Django Unchained overcome its R-rating and vie for the top spot? Had Les Miserables already tapped out its largest audience and was anything left in the tank? As it turns out, the answers to those questions are "Yes", "Almost" and "No" as all three films performed very well, making for a fantastic final weekend at the 2012 box-office. While Laremy struggled to determine whether it would be The Hobbit or Les Mis on top with his predictions on Thursday, it turns out he was nearly spot on with his Les Mis prediction, but slightly under on The Hobbit. The Hobbit pulled in $32.9 million over the three-day, dipping only 10.9% from last weekend as its domestic cume now totals »

Emma Stone, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence, and Christian Bale return to IMDb's Top Stars list for 2012, but Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Hemsworth were the only two movie stars moving up the list for 2012.  The Hunger Games pushed Jennifer Lawrence's awareness from number seven to number two, beating out Emma Stone and Kristen Stewart as the most searched movie actresses on the movie website.

IMDb.com based their top ten list off actual page views for each actor. IMDb receives over 160 million unique visitors to the internet movie database (IMDb) website.  See top ten list below.

Surprisingly Channing Tatum, the break out star of 2012 with three hits (Magic Mike, The Vow, 21 Jump Street), didn't have the most page views among the male stars 6 on IMDb's top ten list). Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a good year as well

G.I. Joe: Retaliation International Poster with Duke and Joe Colton

20 December 2012 11:00 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in May, we reported that one of the reasons Paramount delayed G.I. Joe Retaliation 3D was to shoot more scenes with Channing Tatum. He originally had a smaller role in the sequel, but that, of course, was before the actor blew up with hits such as 21 Jump Street and The Vow. Today, the studio has debuted yet another international poster for director Jon M. Chu's sequel, that includes Channing Tatum (Duke) alongside Bruce Willis (Joe Colton), Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Adrianne Palicki (Lady Jaye), and Ray Park (Snake Eyes). This one-sheet also includes Ray Stevenson (Firefly), Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow), and Elodie Yung (Jinx). Check it out before this 3D action-thriller debuts in March.

G.I. Joe Retaliation 3D comes to theaters March 29th, 2013 and stars Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Stevenson, Joseph Mazzello, Ray Park, Walton Goggins. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu. »

‘To the Wonder’ Trailer: Terrence Malick Explores the Mysteries of Love

19 December 2012 9:44 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

That Terrence Malick makes handsome films overflowing with poetic imagery and cinematography, is one thing that everyone agrees on; it’s the content that divides cinephiles. Reactions to Malick projects like The Thin Red Line, The New World and Tree of Life illustrate that divide, as does festival buzz for his next picture, To the Wonder.

To the Wonder is the sixth feature-length film written and directed by Malick over the past four decades; that it’s arriving two years after Tree of Life is astonishing, given the auteur’s tendencies. No surprise, it features a small cast of familiar faces and acting heavyweights, which includes Ben Affleck (Argo), Rachel McAdams (The Vow), Olga Kurylenko (Magic City) and Oscar-winner Javier Bardem (Skyfall).

Malick’s new film (unlike Tree of Life) is a relatively straight-forward and linear tale about a man and ...

Thn’s 2012 Rundown – January & February

18 December 2012 3:30 AM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

A new year brings the familiar award season line-up with the Golden Globes and Academy Awards on the horizon. We start our look back at the best (and worst) of 2012, unsurprisingly, in January.

January

Low-budget possession-themed chiller The Devil Inside, which debuted at No.1 with an opening weekend of almost $34 million, provided the first surprise of 2012. The truly terrible film didn’t deserve such success with its “dull plot… plodding through a vapid, lifeless monotony“, much like Chris Gorak’s appropriately titled The Darkest Hour. The worst film of the year (even beating Keith Lemon: The Film) features a great cast wasted on a woeful script trumped only by the 90s Gamesmaster-esque visual effects during the laughable finale. With a $30 million budget The Darkest Hour lives up to it’s name and all involved should hang their heads in shame.

The always likeable Mark Wahlberg headlined an impressive supporting cast in the enjoyable, »

Dexter Star David Zayas Heading to The Following; New Promo Is a Masterpiece

17 December 2012 4:16 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

More casting news for Fox's "The Following" has hit the interwebs, and as always you'll find it right here. Sgt. Angel Batista of Miami Metro has retired from dealing with Dexter Morgan and will now be tracking a whole new band of psychos. We also have a look at a new promo for the show.

THR reports that the "Dexter" actor has been tapped to guest star on Fox's midseason drama "The Following." Zayas will play Tyson, a former FBI agent and good friend to Kevin Bacon's Ryan Hardy. He'll appear in the 10th episode of the Kevin Williamson drama, ultimately becoming an unlikely participant in Ryan's effort to bring down Joe Carroll's (James Purefoy) followers.

The latest trailer for G.I. Joe: Retaliation looks very familiar

13 December 2012 11:26 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If you want to avoid any potential spoilers (or ex-spoilers), just skip to the trailer below...

Back in May, just over a month before the film was due to hit cinemas, Paramount Pictures made the unprecedented decision to push back the release of their impending action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation until this coming March. The official line behind the move was to allow time for director John M. Chu (Step Up 2: The Streets, Step Up 3D) to oversee a 3D post-conversion, although rumours suggested that the real reason was to increase the role of Channing Tatum's character Duke.

Coming off the back of two consecutive hits in The Vow and 21 Jump Street (you can now throw Magic Mike into there too), Tatum's star had risen considerably since Retaliation first went into production, to the point where he was now arguably the biggest draw of the franchise. Channing Tatum Flexes His Muscles on Set Following a Boys' Weekend

13 December 2012 9:20 AM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Channing Tatum and an almost unrecognizable Mark Ruffalo got to work filming Foxcatcher in Pittsburgh yesterday. The movie is based on the true story of the 1996 murder of wrestler David Schultz, played by Mark, and will also star Steve Carell. Channing recently said of the film, "It's going to be the hardest acting challenge I've had to date." He broke from the set over the weekend, though, to watch the Steelers take on the San Diego Chargers with a group of guy friends. The year may be winding down, but Channing's staying busy, as he did for most of 2012. He hit the big screen with three successful releases, The Vow, Magic Mike, and 21 Jump Street, was crowned People's Sexiest Man Alive, opened the New Orleans bar Saints & Sinners, and filmed White House Down. His run isn't over yet, since he could still pick up the favorite male and sexiest man »

First On-Set Images Released From Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher

13 December 2012 5:48 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

A few on-set snaps have recently been released from Bennett Miller‘s Foxcatcher, the director’s follow up to the incredibly successful Moneyball, which has been in production for several months now over in Pennsylvania. The movie features a fairly impressive ensemble cast which includes Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo, Steve Carrell, Sienna Miller, Anthony Michael Hall and Vanessa Redgrave.

Based on a real life story, Steve Carrell takes centre stage as millionaire and schizophrenic John du Pont who decides to build a wrestling training facility on his vast estate. Everything takes a turn for the worst, however, when John murders his former friend and Olympic gold-medal winning wrestler David Schultz (Mark Ruffalo).

Judging by the images featured below Steve Carrell has slimmed down and gone grey for his part, while Mark Ruffalo looks drastically different compared to his last prominent role as a certain Bruce Banner.

As another movie year comes to a close, it's time to look back at the biggest film-related stories of 2012 and take stock of all the highs and lows. And while there certainly were some major movie highs this year — from acclaimed period pieces to crowd-pleasing blockbusters to surprise comedy hits — frankly, we're more than happy for 2012 to be over.

That's because, as cool as the action was on screen, the headlines being made off-screen were often sad, disappointing or downright terrifying to think about. So let's look back at the year that was — and hope that 2013 is a whole hell of a lot more fun.

15. Johnny Depp Crashes and Burns

For the last decade or so, Johnny Depp has pretty much been the biggest star in the world. But in 2012, Depp's smooth sailing came to an abrupt end. First came the release of "Dark Shadows," which surprisingly bombed at the box office in May. »

Who Got Naked in Movies This Year?

10 December 2012 11:00 AM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Ahh, the year in skin.

It's not the golden "Deep Throat" years of the '70s anymore, it's the age of the Internet and no one really goes to the movies to see nudity, but women proved they were hungry for some beefcake with the wild success of "Magic Mike." Meanwhile, A-list actresses bared it all for some compelling reasons that were absolutely integral to the script… hehe.

Here's our comprehensive list of major celebs who got in the buff so perverts could post screengrabs on Internet forums.

She may be a trampire in real-life, but Stewart's also got a polyamorous streak in the movie version of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road," a.k.a. "This Seemed Cooler When I Was in High School English Class." As free spirit Marylou, Stewart gets to have a go with both Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund »
