Schwarzenegger Sent By Heaven?

30 December 2011 9:30 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

A while back came the word that Arnold Schwarzenegger's first post-"Expendables 2" project would be a stripped down action thriller called "Black Sands". Turns out it won't be as stripped down as we thought.

The previous report had Arnie playing a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the American Southwest.

Now called "Black Sunday", the film is being described as a cross between "Commando and Constantine". Schwarzenegger tells The Arnold Fans that "I’m a kind of angel. I cannot currently say more about this film.”

Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy ("Act Of Valor") are directing from a script by Sergio Altieri and Kevin Elders which Skip Woods ("A Good Day To Die Hard") performed re-writes on. Filming begins in April. »

Bruce Willis: the new star of straight-to-dvd movies?

1 December 2011 6:10 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

It seems the name of Bruce Willis is no longer enough to get a film seen in cinemas. But does that matter anymore, wonders Simon...

There’s a reason, I’ve concluded, that Bruce Willis’ filming schedule currently finds him in the midst of four sequels. Right now, Willis has completed work, is working on, or starting shortly on The Expendables 2, G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra, A Good Day To Die Hard and Red 2. Each of those should give him a solid box office hit at the very least.

On paper, he doesn’t seem to need it, though. In 2010, he had a trio of films that topped the Us box office, in the shape of Cop Out, The Expendables and Red. However, they were his first live action hits outside of the Die Hard franchise in some time (and two of them sold off the back of an ensemble). Before that, »

Catch .44 Trailer

15 November 2011 6:10 AM, PST | www.themoviebit.com | See recent TheMovieBit news »

You don’t have to wait for A Good Day To Die Hard to get your Bruce Willis fix on the big screen, thanks to the upcoming release of ‘crime caper’ Catch .44. Whilst there hasn’t been a lot of advance word on the movie, the cast includes Willis, Forest Whitaker and Watchmen’s Malin Akerman, so it could be pretty promising. It has a very Pulp Fiction feel to it too. It’s released early December in the Us, with no date over here just yet. Check it out!

George Miller Shares ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Updates

11 November 2011 9:11 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Constant delays and increasingly-busy stars led me to the conclusion that Mad Max: Fury Road would never shoot a frame. Unfortunate, in my eyes; it being one of the few franchise revisits that has the chance to be good is enough for disappointment to register, but Tom Hardy playing the iconic hero is also too good an opportunity to pass up. Instead of that, we’d be getting A Good Day to Die Hard.

But in an interview with ThePlaylist, director George Miller made it clear that the film is still happening. They’ve “got the whole movie designed,” and “the whole film has been prepared, storyboarded and so on.” Hardy, Charlize Theron, and Nicholas Hoult are all still ready to star, though actors such as Noel Clarke, Zoe Kravitz, and Adelaide Clemens were not mentioned; neither was the proposed fifth installment, Mad Max: Furiousa.

Casting notes: Star Trek 2, Arthur & Lancelot, Die Hard 5, Akira

9 November 2011 2:04 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

As Sequels to X-Men: First Class and also Wrath of the Titans, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Blade Runner all begin to get moving, let's not forget that 2009's relaunch of Star Trek has also earned itself a follow-up.

And it may now have its villain in place. Benicio Del Toro (pictured) is expected to be offered the part - and it's a role so secret that even the actor doesn't know who he will be playing, reports Variety.

The fanboys are all guessing it will be Khan but hopefully we will boldly go where no other film or episode has gone before rather than rehash Ricardo Montalban's tyrant, who first appeared in the TV tale Space Seed and went on to star in the 1982 feature Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Jj Abrams returns to the director's chair for this untitled Star Trek follow-up, »

A Good Day To Die Hard: who's playing John McClane's son?

6 November 2011 9:11 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The search for the right actor to play John McClane's son in A Good Day To Die Hard looks to be coming to a close, as the shortlist is down to four.

You may remember recently that we wrote a piece speculating on who should be cast in the role of John McClane’s son in the fifth Die Hard movie, hilariously known as A Good Day to Die Hard. Sadly though, none of the names seem to have made the shortlist of actors that director John Moore and Bruce Willis have narrowed down their search to.

The actors reportedly being considered are; Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games and Expendables 2), Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), James Badge Dale (The Pacific) and D.J. Cotrona (G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation & Detroit 1-8-7).

Whoever lands the role will play an integral part in the film, given that the character of the son is the reason »

Who Will Play John McClane’s Son In A Good Day To Die Hard?

5 November 2011 1:30 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Casting on Die Hard 5, or as it’s officially titled A Good Day To Die Hard (jeez), is getting fierce.

A few weeks back it was reported that Ben Foster, Paul Dano, Milo Ventimiglia and Aaron Paul were all battling it out to play John McClane’s son in the new movie but now according to Deadline there is a second round of shortlisting and only one has survived to the next round, Paul, and he might struggle due to his commitments to AMC’s Breaking Bad.

Deadline name;

Liam Hemsworth, brother to Thor’s Chris Hemsworth and who himself has a big franchise in the offing with The Hunger Games & appears alongside Willis in The Expendables 2 (which might be his ticket to getting the role)

James Badge Dale (The Pacific, World War Z)

and D.J. Cortuna, who is always in these casting battles and never wins.

Exclusive: In the young actor category, a role to die for is John McClane Jr, the son of Bruce Willis’ indestructible cop character in A Good Day To Die Hard, which John Moore will direct in Russia early next year for 20th Century Fox. I’m told the studio, Moore and Willis are down to these four actors for the role: Hunger GamesLiam Hemsworth; Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul (scheduling on his series could pose a problem); The Pacific star James Badge Dale; and D.J. Cotrona, who was a regular in the series Detroit 1-8-7 and is currently shooting G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. The studio would not comment. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Blow Up Some Black Sands

31 October 2011 11:57 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Or at least, he is as of this writing. Who knows what will happen when the film finally goes into production? As you’ll recall, when Arnold Schwarzenegger first announced his Hollywood comeback after his political career was mercifully winding down, he was attaching himself to an obscene amount of movies, many of which have since fallen by the wayside, leaving only “The Last Stand” and “The Expendables 2″. But those were early days, and maybe he was just too excited, like a kid in a candy store, if you will. He’s firmly back in Hollywood now, and has attached himself to another action film called “Black Sands” from “Act of Valor” directors Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy. Based on a script by Skip Woods (“Swordfish”, and the upcoming “Die Hard” sequel “A Good Day To Die Hard”), “Black Sands” will find Schwarzenegger playing “a loner who wages war »

Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star In Black Sands

The former Governor has wasted no time uptil now getting back into his element by taking on Kim Ji-Woon‘s The Last Stand and Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables 2.

The film is reported to be similar in tone to Man On Fire and High Plains Drifter.

The project is to be directed by the stunt coordinator duo Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy who have just wrapped up their action adventure Act of Valor featuring active-duty Navy SEALs.

Schwarzenegger Heads To Black Sands

30 October 2011 5:01 PM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Everyone seems to be referring back to '70s Clint Eastwood westerns this morning: Wolverine director James Mangold is all about The Outlaw Josey Wales, and now Deadline report that Arnold Schwarzenegger's next project (following Kim Ji-woon's The Last Stand) will be Black Sands, a film along the lines of High Plains Drifter. What they actually say is that Black Sands will be tonally similar to Hpd and Man On Fire, so we're not actually looking at a film in which Arnold plays a ghostly avenger who persuades some townfolk to rename their homestead Hell, while searching for a precocious kidnapped girl.Rather, Black Sands is about "a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the Southwest." The current draft of the screenplay is by Skip Woods, who wrote The A-Team, Hitman, Swordfish and, most recently, A Good Day To Die Hard. »

Arnold Schwarzenegger Set to Star in ‘Black Sands’

28 October 2011 3:00 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The two guys who directed the real Navy SEALs movie Act of Valor, Scott Waugh and Mike McCoy, have been validated by Relativity's decision to buy and release that picture. The duo will next get to make Black Sands, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie sounds like a dark action thriller, and features a lone man (Schwarzenegger) facing down a weapons manufacturer and his private army. Deadline [1] breaks the news, and says the film's tone is like High Plains Drifter meets Man on Fire. High Plains Drifter, huh? You think Schwarzenegger will rape someone in this movie, like Eastwood's Stranger did in Drifter? I doubt it -- it probably isn't that dark. To expand just slightly on the basics listed above, the plot features "a loner who wages war against a ruthless weapons manufacturer and his private army in the Southwest." That sounds like an alternate version of half the big-name »
