A smooth landing for the Star Trek sequel plus ongoing love for Iron Man 3 means cinematic coffers should live long and prosper
The winner
When the Next Generation cycle of Star Trek movies sputtered to an end in 2003, Nemesis closed out its run with a mediocre £4.8m in the UK, down from previous episode Insurrection's £7.7m. Paramount and Jj Abrams craftily reinvented the brand with the 2009 reboot, debuting with a tasty £5.95m (including £872,000 in previews), on its way to a total of £21.4m. Now comes the sequel, Into Darkness. Given the expanded fanbase established by the 2009 film, and the addition of Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch as the Star Fleet's formidable new foe, it's no big surprise to see numbers rise. Even so, Paramount will be more than happy with the achieved result: £8.43m including previews of £1.57m. That's a 42% rise on the debut last time around. Sequels do usually »

Three's the magic number for Shane Black's superhero sequel as it doubles the takings of Iron Man 2. Meanwhile, Michael Winterbottom's Paul Raymond biopic heads south
The winner
After four days, Iron Man 3 was running just 13% behind The Avengers at the same stage of its UK run, suggesting that the film would finish a lot closer to the superhero team-up (£51.9m) than to either of the earlier Iron Man movies. Seven days later, and it's a similar story, with Iron Man 3 at an impressive £24.6m as of Sunday night, a slim 18% behind Avengers at the same point of release. If it continues at a similar pace, Iron Man 3 should end up around £42-43m here. The first Iron Man film maxed out at £17.4m, while the sequel made it to £21.3m, so the third episode looks set to double its predecessor.

This Alice + Olivia frock proved to be quite popular on the red carpet — but who do You think wore it better? Vote!
Bella Thorne went out on a school night on Mar. 19, when the 15-year-old hit the red carpet for the premiere of The Host at the ArcLight Cinemas Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. The star looked age appropriate and chic, wearing a flirty strapless Alice + Olivia frock from the Fall 2012 collection.
The muted navy and white dress was belted, accentuating her svelte frame, while the voluminous skirt kept the ensemble feminine and fun. Bella pulled her hair up into a top knot to keep the focus on the dress, while a coral lip and interesting booties completed her ensemble. The Disney star is certainly one we love to watch on the red carpet, especially because she seems to have so much fun getting glam — and her appearance at The Host premiere was no exception! »

We're still a few months away from J.J. Abrams Star Trek Into Darkness, but according to producer Bryan Burk, plans are already afoot for the third / thirteenth movie in the long-running sci-fi franchise, which could coincide with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek in 2016.
"We're definitely talking about the next one, but we haven't talked about a release date," Burk told Digital Spy. "We don't want to wait four years, the same amount of time between the last one and this one, but [2016] is going to be a big year to celebrate hopefully."
At this point in time, it's unclear whether Abrams will return to direct the next Star Trek movie, given his commitments to Disney's Star Wars: Episode VII - which is expected to arrive in 2015 - although it is thought he will continue his involvement in a producing capacity at the very least.

The co-director of the first American Pie movie gives an update as to where things are with the franchise...
Paul Weitz, along with his brother Chris, may only have directed the first American Pie movie, but he's had an executive producer credit ever since, and has had some kind of involvement with the subsequent movies. Although we don't blame him for the straight to DVD adventures.
Weitz, who's promoting his new movie Admission, was chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, and they asked him about the talk of American Pie 5. "I'm happy that keeps on going", he said. "I imagine [there will be]. I think this one kind of benefited from being seven years since the last one, so there's a curiosity factor".
So: just how involved does Universal make him in the sequels? "It kind of happens where they tell me about it, and I go 'Neat'. »

Paul Weitz has said that he expects a fifth American Pie to be made in the future.
The director of the first film and producer of American Pie 2 and American Reunion stated that while he may not be as involved in the franchise as he used to be, he would always agree to further instalments being made.
When asked if he expects a follow-up to last year's American Reunion, he told The Hollywood Reporter: "I'm happy that [the series] keeps on going. I imagine [there will be].
"I think this one kind of benefited from it being seven years since the last one, so there's a curiosity factor."
On what the next film could be about, he joked: "I don't know. Maybe they're in a retirement home."
Weitz added that he always gives his "two cents" to a further instalment if the script is good.
He said: "It kind of happens where they tell me about it, »

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has now been off our TV screens for a staggering 10 years, while Angel disappeared 9 years ago. In an attempt to keep the ‘Buffyverse’ fandom satisfied, supposedly canon continuations (in the form of comic books) have been printed for both shows and for various characters within the shows. But – for reasons we shall look in to further in this list – not everyone is content with this idea.
Now, I’m the first to admit that there are undoubtedly a number of reasons why bringing either show back to TV screens would be incredibly difficult and probably shouldn’t happen, but I’ve always been a ‘glass half-full’ kind of chap, so let’s blissfully ignore those reasons for the sake of our happy faces.
So, whether it’s for a full new season, a spin-off, or even a movie or one-off special, here are 10 reasons why the »
