Albert Nobbs (2011) Poster

Glenn Close not only stars as the lead character Albert, but she also co-wrote the screenplay, wrote the original song for the film and produced.
Glenn Close first played Albert Nobbs in a 1982 off-Broadway stage production. She won the Obie Award.
As a producer, Glenn Close was highly involved in the casting process. She went to Broadway and offered the role to Janet McTeer and called Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Light, who played her sons in The Lion in Winter (2003).
Glenn Close was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award (Oscar) for her lead role as Albert Nobbs. It was Close's sixth nomination and sixth loss, and this now ties her with actresses Thelma Ritter and Deborah Kerr for the most consecutive losses for an actress.
Amanda Seyfried and Orlando Bloom were originally cast but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. They were replaced by Mia Wasikowska and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The entire film was shot in 34 days in Dublin, Ireland.
Glenn Close caught pneumonia while filming the movie.
According to Glenn Close, most of John Banville's contribution to the script was adapting it with Irish expressions and accents.
Both acting Academy Award nominations received by this movie (Glenn Close and Janet McTeer) were for cross-dressing performances (women playing men).
The movie was close to be filmed in the early '90s with István Szabó directing.
