Justice League Dark gets a new screenwriter

31 August 2017 7:49 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Having been tipped as a potential replacement in the director’s chair following the departure of Doug Liman, Deadline is reporting that Gerard Johnstone (Housebound) has signed on to polish the script for Warner Bros.’ planned DC ensemble Justice League Dark.

The movie, which focusses on the supernatural side of the DC universe and reportedly features John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon, has not had an easy ride since it was first announced back in 2012, with both Guillermo del Toro and Liman exiting the project.

Warner Bros. had been looking to tap It director Andy Muschietti for the film, although he’s said to be moving straight onto the second part of the upcoming Stephen King adaptation. Safe House and Life helmer Daniel Espinosa has also been rumoured as a contender. »

Justice League Dark: two new directors linked with the film

Simon Brew Aug 21, 2017

Both Gerard Johnstone and Daniel Espinosa are now in the running for Justice League Dark...

The Justice League Dark movie, that Warner Bros is planning, has thus far lost both Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman as potential directors. The pair had both been involved in developing the movie, with Liman the last to depart the project three months ago.

Since then, Warner Bros has been on the hunt for a new director.

It seems it may have found one, too. A new report suggests that – after considering the likes of Andres Muschetti and Damian Szifron (who made It and Wild Tales respectively) – that the shortlist is now down to Daniel Espinosa and Gerard Johnstone. The former is best known for Life and Safe House, the latter for Housebound.

The screenplay for the film – at least the current draft – has been penned by Michael Gilio, and it »

As with The Flash (now titled Flashpoint), Warner Bros. are on the lookout for a third director on its upcoming supernatural DC ensemble Justice League Dark following the departures of Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman.

Well, it Beyond the Trailer’s Grace Randolph is to be believed, the studio has now narrowed its choice to two contenders: Safe House and Life helmer Daniel Espinosa, and New Zealand filmmaker Gerard Johnstone, director of the 2014 horror-comedy Housebound.

Justice League Dark was featured as part of Warner’s DC Films slate at the San Diego Comic-Con International back in July, and is said to be viewed as a priority within the studio, so hopefully we’ll get official word on a director soon.

Rumor: Justice League Dark Director Search Is Reportedly Narrowed Down To These Two

18 August 2017 6:06 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Justice League Dark — believe it or not — is still a movie that’s supposedly happening. For those unfamiliar, this is a team of of superheroes who skew more towards the horror side of things. Some notable members inclue Constantine, Frankenstein, and Swamp Thing.

This is a movie that’s been in the works for around five solid years. For the longest time, fan favorite helmer Guillermo del Toro was attached to the movie, and in 2015, he unceremoniously dropped out of said project. In his place was Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman, but it didn’t take long for him to hop off in order to focus on the adaptation of the Ya novel Chaos Walking. Now, it sounds like Warner Bros. may actually be closer to zeroing in on a director for the film. According to YouTuber Grace Randolph, who runs the channel Beyond the Trailer, they have two »

Newswire: The Shallows’ Jaume Collet-Serra is the new Suicide Squad 2 frontrunner

11 July 2017 6:48 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

In February, a number of directors emerged as the top picks to direct Suicide Squad 2, including Hollywood golden boy Mel Gibson, Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer, Safe House’s Daniel Espinosa, and Warm BodiesJonathan Levine. Now, none of those guys are attached any longer, and The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra is the new frontrunner. That’s according to Deadline, but a separate Hollywood Reporter story says that Gibson decided not to take the job over some script delays and that Warner Bros. has a new treatment written by Zak Penn (who worked on The Avengers and Ready Player One).

Collet-Serra is also the director behind the Liam Neeson movies Non-Stop, Run All Night, and The Commuter, and he has apparently been in high-demand in Hollywood for a while now. Of course, Suicide Squad 2 isn’t an unforgettable Liam Neeson vehicle like Run All Night, so it remains to »

Life, 2017.

Directed by Daniel Espinosa.

Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Rebecca Ferguson, Hiroyuki Sanada, Olga Dihovichnaya, and Ariyon Bakare.

Synopsis:

A team of scientists aboard the International Space Station whose mission of discovery turns to one of primal fear when they find a rapidly evolving life form that caused extinction on Mars, and now threatens the crew and all life on Earth.

Let’s get one thing out of the way first; no, Life is not the Venom origin story many fans are hoping it will be. It’s also inextricably indebted to Ridley Scott’s Alien throughout, which while denting much prospect of originality, does little to impact its integrity as a tripwire-tense, sharply-acted sci-fi horror romp, serving as a welcome tonic amid the recent annual onset of blockbuster bombast.

A six-member crew aboard the International Space Station (Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare and »
