Terrific Documentary
This is a fascinating look at a unique Catholic priest whose experiences in the mystical realm riled his superiors who considered his psychic revelations to be out of step with church teachings. Yet Father Samonie persevered, outlasted his critics, and continues to enlighten others on the potential of the human spirit. This documentary vibrantly brings Samonie's mix of psychic revelation and traditional Catholicism to life, utilizing the priest's own artistic works — paintings that Samonie claims were inspired by the visions of the dead. As a channel to past lives, Samonie engages in a type of "automatic painting," creating representations of experiences and images of which he has no first-hand knowledge. While some in the Church considered this to be from dark, demonic sources, Samonie knew differently and did not fight these uninvited messages from an unknown spiritual realm. The mystery endures, but Samonie is determined to make "light" from the darkness, the ache and anguish of existence. This documentary stays with you long after viewing.
