I'm not entirely sure how, but it would seem that New Year's Eve 2012, at least when it comes to movie news, it's all about remembering some of the best film soundtracks of the year. It began earlier when I posted my top 10 list for the Best Movie Music Moments of 2012, and then, just a little while later, we found an awesome Django Unchained soundtrack commentary from writer/director Quentin Tarantino. And now The Weinstein Company is expanding their Oscar campaign for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master by releasing previously unheard versions of Jonny Greenwood tracks from the film's score. In total the studio has released nine songs, with two of them repeating twice, and while all of them eventually made it on to the final soundtrack, it's interesting to listen to the different versions. To listen to the music, just head over to The Weinstein Company's award site. Greenwood, »

A Fox News segment on Monday allowed its on-screen participants to act out their inner Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford by getting wasted on national television. The segment by Fox News La correspondent William La Jeunesse addressed various drunk driving myths -- in light of New Year's Eve being particularly drunken and dangerous -- all while featuring a group of bar-goers (including La Jeunesse himself) getting hammered, slurring their speech, talking loudly about it, and then testing out pocket breathalyzers. »

With the death in April of iconic showman Clark, who was joined since 2006 by "American Idol" host Seacrest for one of television's most popular holiday events, the pop music showcase that rings in a new 12-month cycle will be different by nature. Yet it will stay much the same, as Seacrest and others strive to maintain the tradition that Clark initially set on New Year's Eve 1973 on NBC, where he produced the special for two years before moving it to ABC and becoming its host.
In fact, ABC will make the whole evening very much a tribute to Clark on Monday, Dec. 31. The night will begin with "New Year's Rockin' Eve Celebrates Dick Clark," a two-hour special in which hosts Fergie and Jenny McCarthy introduce clips from past years' festivities, »

"Fez" is a very, very good game that had a twisting, winding path to seeing the light of day on Xbox Live (thanks in large part to the perfectionism of its creator, Phil Fish). Well, gamers on other platforms can look forward to playing "Fez," according to a New Year's Eve post by Fish on the Polytron blog.
Fish says he's heard complaints that "Fez" should be on everything everywhere, and while not specifying a timeline or specific platforms, but he does promise something "exciting" for the award-winning platformer's soundtrack.

Partying and celebrating on New Year's Eve are good things to do. Driving after such activities, however, is not so good. However, if you find yourself drunk and needing a way to get back home, Aaa is once again offering its Tipsy Tow service throughout the night.
Tipsy Tow is kind of cool. Whether or not you are a member of Aaa, you can call them up and ask for a ride/tow to your home. The service is only available in some areas (check aaa.com for the specifics on this) and only for a limited distance -- usually 7-10 miles -- but Tipsy Tow means that both you and your car can get home safely.
If you've had a little (or a lot) too much to drink and want to use Tipsy Tow, you just have to call 1-800-400-4222. They'll come to get you. Hours vary by region, »
You have to give "The Mob Doctor" points for trying. The struggling freshman show (it got only 13 episodes from Fox) is nearing the end of its run, but at least they're trying to attract a few more eyes before it all ends. And they're doing it with a little help from veteran hit show, "Bones."
The New Year's Eve episode of "The Mob Doctor" will feature a whole bunch of shout-outs and Easter eggs from "Bones." So you "Bones" fans out there might just want to give the crime/doctor show one last try.
The whole crossover thing comes because Josh Berman, the show's executive producer, used to be a producer and writer over on "Bones." As it turns out, Berman is still friends with the folks at his old show. "I thought it would be nice to reward Bones fans with secret clues in the episode," Berman told TVLine. »

And so it is that I've left it until the last day of the year to add my Top 10 list to the already teetering; I don't think I've ever left it so late before, and it certainly wasn't calculated on my part, though there's something pleasingly tidy about using New Year's Eve as an occasion to post a list that, in some ways, looks forward as much as it looks back. (Speaking of looking forward: in a break from tradition, the list is accompanied by a video countdown this year, so if you want my curious accent guiding you through, »

Kerry Katona is going to have a 'boring' New Year's Eve (31.12.12). The single mother plans to stay at home tonight with her children Molly, 11 and Lilly-Sue, nine, and Heidi, five, and four-year-old Max and her outspoken mother Sue Katona and have a relaxing night in. Kerry exclusively told Bang Showbiz: 'I'm really boring just stay at home, me and me mum and the kids, that's it.' The 32-year-old reality star claims she doesn't believe in New Year's resolutions and after being clean for three years following a troubled past struggling with drug addiction, bipolar disorder and financial difficulties, Kerry thinks the most important thing in life is to be healthy and happy. Jessica Biel likes to keep her New Year's Eve simple. The 'Total Recall' actress likes things to be as traditional as possible when it comes to celebrating the turning of the year, and always likes to share it with a few close friends. She said: 'I'm not much of a big New Year's planner. It's usually a get together in someplace chilly with a fire burning and snow coming down, and just enjoying a cocktail.' The festive period is a special time for Jessica, 30, as it was at this time last year now-husband Justin Timberlake proposed to her during a break in Jackson, Wyoming. They subsequently married in Naples, Italy in October. She added: 'I will »

Oops. Now I've ruined Kate Winslet's surprise for Hannah! It's a birthday cake.I've always felt bad for people whose birthdays fall around the holidays. They have to share the spotlight with something huge and impersonal (to them) and I hope that they pretend that the world around them is just celebrating their special day with a holiday-themed blowout party. So when I learned that Hannah M, a devoted member of the The Film Experience community was born on New Year's Eve I vowed to wish her a happy birthday this year. So...
Happy Birthday Hannah!
And happy birthday to any of you reading who were born during holidays of any sort. I hereby vow as one of my New Year's Resolution to bring back the 'Reader Spotlight' in 2013. That was fun when we were doing it.
As for other resolutions about life here on the blog, feel free »

The unpardonable death in Delhi on Saturday morning of the gang rape victim cast an all-pervasive pall of gloom over the film industry. Many stars and filmmakers called off their New Year plans. Says a source close to the family, "There's absolutely no appetite for celebration in the Bachchan parivar. Both Amitji and Jayaji are extremely upset by what has happened in Delhi. All plans in the Bachchan family for the New Year have been cancelled." Other topnotch celebrities, like the Kapoors - Rishi, Neetu and Ranbir - and the Roshans, have called off their plans in the light of the tragedy. Hema Malini had planned an elaborate New Year's get-together for her daughter Esha and son-in-law (their first New Year after the wedding). That stands cancelled as of now. In fact one of the above showbiz icons told this writer not to broadcast the no-celebration plans. "Isn't it rather »

Fox News Channel anchor Bill Hemmer ("America's Newsroom"), who headlined much of the network's coverage of the Newtown, Conn., shootings, is looking ahead to his next big assignment -- co-anchoring New Year's Eve coverage from New York City's Times Square.
"Listen -- we're looking forward to another good year," Hemmer tells Zap2it, a sinus infection making his voice sound ragged. "We've had a lot of big stories and a lot of challenges in 2012, as you well know. As a country, here's to hoping for a much better 2013."
What with the Newtown tragedy, the looming fiscal cliff, political bickering, violence breaking out around the country and the world, and the general anemic state of the economy, it's not the most trouble-free of holiday seasons.
But, says Hemmer, that won't dampen the enthusiasm of those who brave hours in the cold to watch the sparkling ball drop in Manhattan.
