David James Kelly Hired To Write ‘Wolverine’ Sequel

24 March 2014 2:45 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Just when you thought you couldn’t possibly get any more Wolverine in your life, along comes Fox with an entire spin-off franchise to fill cinema screens for years to come. That said, last year’s Wolverine was actually quite decent, a surprise considering the last attempt to do a solo Wolverine movie (the woeful X-men Origins: Wolverine), so perhaps a sequel is understandable.

Either way, Hugh Jackman will be returning to our screens in 2017 for the follow-up, directed by James Mangold and currently being written by David James Kelly, who’s just been hired by Fox to pen the superhero script.

Kelly is also on board to write the untitled Daredevil reboot, and to adapt the Dark Horse graphic novel Mind Mgmt for Scott Free Productions and the original pitch Sentinel for Appian Way and Fox.

The currently untitled Wolverine sequel is set for release on 3rd March, 2017.

Writer Tapped For Next ‘Wolverine’

24 March 2014 9:10 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Deadline is reporting that a writer that is unknown to many has been tapped to write the sequel to The Wolverine. While he may not be known, there’s some definite buzz around the writer, whose name is David James Kelly. Not only has he been hired to write the next Wolverine, which will be helmed once again by James Mangold, but he has been linked to two other comic book adaptations as well.

Kelly was credited as a writer on the Daredevil reboot that eventually fell apart, which led to the character’s rights reverting back to Marvel Studios. He’s also presently working on the film adaptation of Dark Horse’s Mind Mgmt for Fox. Other than this, he only has a short film from 2010 on his resumé- Straw Man. So the scribe must do fairly well in pitch meetings, if studios continue to entrust him with potential »

Having recently confirmed a release date for its sequel to The Wolverine, Fox has reportedly tapped a new screenwriter to pen the script, with David James Kelly top of the studio’s list. Deadline reports that Kelly is set to take over from Mark Bomback and Scott Frank for the sequel, despite his only previous credit being a 2010 short entitled Straw Man. That said, Kelly is not a total unknown, having previously rewritten a version of the proposed Daredevil remake, again for Fox. Interestingly, the report also claims that Hugh...

David James Kelly Will Write The Next Wolverine Movie

23 March 2014 8:47 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Earlier this week, Fox set a 2017 release date for the sequel to James Mangold’s The Wolverine, and today we have word that they’ve hired a writer as well. David James Kelly, who was previously attached to the studio’s Daredevil reboot, will pen the next solo Wolverine outing.

Kelly doesn’t have a produced feature to his credit yet, but he has been attached to a lot of interesting projects. In addition to Daredevil, he’s supposed to adapt the Dark Horse graphic novel Mind Mgmt, and his original pitch for Sentinel was picked up by Fox and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way.

The Wolverine was my favorite comic book movie of 2013, and that wasn’t because of a lack of quality from the others that were released. I thought it was an excellent look at the character with Jackman in his finest form yet. While he obviously »

Fox Dates A Fantastic Four Sequel for 2017

23 March 2014 3:23 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

With Mark Millar, Simon Kinberg and Matthew Vaughn all acting as overseers, 20th Century Fox is looking to take a leaf out of Disney/Marvel's book and line up a lot of superhero product for the marketplace. With X-Men: Apocalypse already set for 2016, the studio has announced a Fantastic Four sequel for July 14, 2017, the next Wolverine outing for March 3, 2017 and an untitled Marvel movie for July 13, 2018. Of the announcements, the Fantastic Four sequel is perhaps the most surprising, given that Josh Trank and his freshly confirmed cast have yet to even start shooting the first of the rebooted efforts. It would appear to be a big ol' vote of confidence in the wake of recent rumours about trouble for Trank. As for the new Wolverine film? James Mangold is already developing that one, which should once again see Hugh Jackman clawing around. In an added development, Deadline reports that David James Kelly, »

CG Paul Walker for 'Fast 7', 'Wolverine 2' Writer Set and Payne Talks 'Star Trek 3'

22 March 2014 8:50 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

I reached out to two Universal reps to get either a confirmation or denial of this story, but both failed to reply. So, we'll go with it for now as the New York Daily News is quoting a source saying "four actors with bodies very similar to Paul Walker's physique" have been hired to stand in for the recently deceased actor for Fast and Furious 7 (4/10/15) and the production will use CGI to morph Walker's face onto the actors. Now this isn't anything new to movies as facial replacement is used on what I would assume to be nearly 100% of all heavy, action-based movies. The thing is, this story makes it sound like they're going to actually use this character for scenes with dialogue. I'll need more confirmation than an anonymous source from the New York Daily News before I would believe that. We recently learned Fox set a March »

Fox Sets Screenwriter David James Kelly for Wolverine Sequel; Director James Mangold and Star Hugh Jackman Expected to Return

22 March 2014 8:33 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

On the heels of the news that Fox set a release date for The Wolverine sequel, a new report has the studio tapping screenwriter David James Kelly to pen the script.  His resume is a little light, with only his 2010 short Straw Man making it to production, but he is also behind a rewrite of the planned Daredevil movie reboot. Perhaps the more interesting tidbit from this write-up is that it confidently asserts that both director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman will return to their respective roles.  We don't have official word of either being signed on yet, but since their last effort made over $400 million world-wide (and Jackman's pretty much become synonymous with the title character), it's a safe bet that Fox will work to get them both back.  Hit the jump for more. Deadline reports that James Kelly is attached to pen the screenplay for The Wolverine sequel. »

David James Kelly to Write James Mangold’s Sequel to The Wolverine

22 March 2014 1:38 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

20th Century Fox have reached out to David James Kelly to write the sequel to James Mangold’s The Wolverine. This isn’t his first time that he’s been linked to one of their Marvel properties as Kelly was at one point attached to the Daredevil reboot back when it was still at Fox and David Slade was attached to direct.

While he’s currently hard at work adapting Dark Horse graphic novel Mind Mgmt for Scott Free Productions and the original pitch Sentinel for Appian Way and Fox, Kelly should have plenty of time to work on Wolverine’s third solo outing ahead of the recently announced release date of March 3rd, 2017.

With Mangold set to return as director and Hugh Jackman being lined up to again reprise the role of the iconic Marvel mutant, the currently untitled sequel to The Wolverine is expected to start shooting when »

Hugh Jackman hinted about stepping away from his iconic character earlier this month, and director James Mangold said that the sequel may happen with or without him earlier this week. It seems everything has been worked out, with the actor now on board for this follow-up.
