*** 600th review *** Saving me (dvd)
21 June 2013 | by (PariS) – See all my reviews

I would never have believed that I would end my eight years run of reviewing my DVD with such a crap!

Yes, I know that I have already wrote about this ending when I reviewed "7 years itch" but I just couldn't look for new and undetermined movies on TV, Web or screen without trying to find the leftover from my best actor (Pacino) and best actress (Cruz). It's done now so I was left indeed with my very last DVD, that's to say the 3 seasons of "Saving Grace"!

This show taught me 2 good darn lessons:

1) never buy a show on impulse

2) never buy a show without having watched at least 1 episode

Indeed, I bought it after having watched "Always" at the Cinémathèque as I found Holly to be a charming, dynamic, tender brunette. Sure, before I paid for them, I was aware with the covers that she actually turned into a grunge blonde but I didn't care then.

Honestly, I watched from pilot to a part of episode 6 in season 1 and then jumped directly to this last episode of season 3 as this show was so bad.

In a way, it's like they chose the worst thing in everything!

First, it's a cop show: as usual and as always, it looks like this is the only and best profession in the world and there aren't really any other occupation worthy of stories: BS ! In addition, it's totally unbelievable as the cop drives here a Porsche. Everywhere else, it will be the proof of a corrupt cop! The criminal cases I watched were boring, totally anecdotal and hard to follow as well.

Next, it wants to be a paranormal show as Grace meets her last chance angel. Sure, I wasn't expected "Wings of desire" but maybe with luck, it could have been a sort of "Twin Peaks" with country rednecks: Nada! this religious side is terribly scripted: The angel who looks like a hobo has nothing to say, does nothing spiritual except flapping his wings, making teleportation or doing errands. Do you think they speak faith, evil, heaven or hell? Absolutely not and I don't comment the fact that all started with Grace killing accidentally on a road a criminal who was sleeping in a death-row cell!

The production is totally hideous: As it's expected to happen in OKC, every outdoor scene is strongly colorized in a gold light! The sets are totally poor and a terrible mess. The cast is simply awful (her partners, her family, her dog, the guests). Every one is unknown and the reason is clear.

Finally, Grace is an irritating character as well: she has sex as lot, she drinks, she smokes; she taught her nephew to kiss (maybe) but to fire a gun! She has as many siblings as episodes! What about Holly? Well, she hasn't aged well: she looks skinny, anorexic and very masculine….

We are very far away of the quality of "NYPD Blue" for example and Kim Delaney remains the finest example of an incredible woman in the criminal field.

The last episode doesn't change anything: just a ridiculous babble about a fight of good versus evil, no action, no tension, no drama, no special effects. I really don't grasp what has been the evolution of the show during the 40 episodes I skipped as Grace is exactly like as I left her.

So, this show is a big void, maybe my biggest disappointment in my collection, that has nothing for it except that it didn't save my savings!
