"In 1997, the Nepabunna Aboriginal community near Leigh Creek in South Australia declared their land to be Australia's first Indigenous Protected Area (IPA). Ten years on, there are now 24 Indigenous Protected Areas covering close to 17 million hectares across Australia. IPAs are seen as one of Australia's great environmental success stories, and have been praised by people from around the world - including the United Nations. This documentary demonstrates that the Indigenous people and communities not only use traditional land management practices to protect and conserve country, they are also providing pathways for their people towards meaningful jobs, rejuvenating country and protecting culture to create stronger healthier communities.
