Hudson County political boss Frank " I am the law" Hague served as the 30th mayor of Jersey City from 1917 to 1947 when he resigned in favor of his nephew, lawyer Frank Hahue Eggers. It was understood that Hague still retained ultimate control. The Hague Era in Jersey City came to an end with the 1949 defeat of Eggers' by reform candidate John V. Kenny.
