The Background Of Jesus
7 June 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Part One of Jesus Of Nazareth starts with the introduction of the parents of Jesus from his father Joseph and mother Mary, both of whom are residents of Nazareth. We get to witness how they are betrothed together and many other important events during the birth of Jesus such as: the appearance of the Angel Gabriel to Mary;the birth of John The Baptist;the nativity; a 12-year old Jesus getting lost at Bethlehem; the baptism of Jesus by John The Baptist; and the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus from his recruitment of the apostles until he gets to perform a miracle wherein he fed five thousand men as well as women and children on the mounting listening to him preach the Good News.Overall, the viewer gets a background information about Jesus and his family.

Evidently, this part isn't as compelling as the second part which has more of the teachings as well as the passion and death of Jesus,it still would evoke interest in the sense that we are treated with great acting particularly Olivia Hussey, who portrayed Mary, the mother of Jesus. Her performance was truly worth mentioning especially upon showing naivete during the appearance of the angel and the sincere happiness she felt upon the birth of Jesus and finding him as a young boy lost in the temple. There was no over-the- top performance from her.The presence of Olivia Hussey and her portrayal of Mary make it a must-see especially since there will be less of her in the second part.
