Amy Jellico returns to Riverside after rehabilitation at an ocean-side program in Hawaii. She's a new woman, intent on changing the world: during rehab, she swam near a sea turtle and had cosmic insights. In flashbacks, we see her lose it at work - a complete meltdown, yelling at her married boss in front of his supervisors, shouting details of their affair. She moves in with her wary and detached mother, visits her drug-using ex-husband Levi to urge him to see the possibilities of expanded consciousness, and wants her old employer to create a job making her responsible earth-friendly corporate policies. Is the new Amy enlightened, and is the old Amy lurking near the surface? Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>

User Reviews

Very engaging

I really liked the Pilot for Enlightened. The show feels effortless, and it blends in dark comedy with drama very well. It has very smooth and assured direction, and so far the writing is top notch. I am really looking forward to what Laura Dern does, since I think she was pretty brilliant in this first episode. It's also great to see Diane Ladd and their scene together in the middle of the episode was brilliantly written and performed. I am definitely looking forward to more of this show. Sometimes I am glad that the Globes exist, and if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have sought this show out. I have to say a big thank you to them, even though I admit sometimes their picks rub me the wrong way. Great start!
