11 of the weirdest bootleg DVD covers: True Detective, Batman Begins

18 October 2014 1:30 AM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - Movie News news »

Translating movies and television for international markets can be a tricky business, as we discovered last year when we assembled this collection of 20 titles that got lost in translation.

But if you want to descend to a whole new level of weirdness, you need to look beyond the official channels. Whether it's a pirated disc being hawked in the street or a bona fide copy resold in unofficial packaging, these are products where the normal quality standards simply do not apply.

Below we've rounded up 11 of the world's most bizarre bootleg DVD covers, featuring dodgy Photoshopping, garbled Babelfish-style synopses, and entire actors being accidentally dropped in from other movies or TV shows.

1. True Detective

God, True Detective was a great show. Remember that episode where Rust and Marty go to Vegas and live it up in faux-Paris before narrowly escaping an exploding building on the back of a phoenix?

Nicole Kidman's New Movie Looks a Whole Lot Like Memento

7 October 2014 4:02 PM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

If 50 First Dates and Memento had a movie baby, it would probably look a whole lot like Before I Go to Sleep. The upcoming thriller is an adaptation of S.J. Watson's bestseller about a woman (Nicole Kidman) who wakes up every day with no memory. It's a result of a traumatic brain injury that she can't even remember, until one day she starts trying. Soon, she becomes suspicious of everyone, including her husband (Colin Firth) and her doctor (Mark Strong). This is on our list of the most anticipated book-to-movie adaptations of the Fall, so I've got my fingers crossed that it's good. Before I Go to Sleep is set for an Oct. 31 release date, and you can watch the trailer below! »

7 October 2014 1:50 PM, PDT | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Like many of you, I’ve long wished for the Adam Sandler comedy 50 First Dates to be recut into a horror movie and now Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, and Mark Strong have teamed up to deliver just that! It’s the newest trailer for Before I Go To Sleep and joking aside it actually looks like a decent enough thriller. Here’s the official synopsis: Based on the worldwide best-selling novel by S.J. Watson, Before I Go To Sleep is the story of a woman (Nicole »

Adam Sandler’s landmark deal to produce and star in four feature films for Netflix will not fundamentally alter his longstanding relationship with Sony Pictures.

The studio has been home to Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions for 15 years and has fielded 25 films over that time including such homegrown hits as “Click,” “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” and “50 First Dates.” The deal to make feature films does not expire for years, and Sandler is expected to be involved in upcoming Sony films such as the event film  “Pixels” and “Hotel Transylvania 2,” as well as a possible third installment in the “Grown Ups” series, according to an individual with knowledge of the deal.

First Dates is better than Gogglebox and I'm glad it's coming back

6 October 2014 3:13 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Surely, after two unloved series, it will be third time lucky for the daddy of all rubbernecking TV dating shows

If you count yourself as a regular viewer of Channel 4s First Dates, then pat yourself on the back. Youre in a pretty exclusive club. Hardly anyone watched the first series last year. One week, it was even beaten in the ratings by The Girl with 7 Mums one of those documentaries that Channel 5 makes title-first by closing its eyes and flinging a fistful of magnetic poetry tiles against a fridge door.

This years second series fared better, but not enough for anyone to actually notice that it was on. All the signs pointed to a failed experiment. Like many of the contestants whod previously appeared on it, First Dates looked doomed to die alone and unloved.

Sandler Confirms: Ansel Elgort Is Wicked Hot

The crowd outside the world premiere “Men, Women & Children” at the Toronto Film Festival on Saturday was overrun with tween girls who shrieked, hyperventilated and begged Ansel Elgort for autographs.

Fresh from the success of “The Fault in Our Stars,” the doe-eyed heartthrob received the kind of welcome that would be all too familiar to Robert Pattinson. Elgort appeared to be too busy catering to his lustful fans to talk to print media, but co-star Adam Sandler made it clear he’s not the jealous type.

“I’ll give it all to Ansel,” Sandler said. “I love that kid. He’s a sweet kid and it’s just a nice energy to be around. He wasn’t a superstar when we shot this movie but now he’s certainly having a good time.”

On 3rd September, Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel team up as husband and wife in comedy caper Sex Tape, and hunt down their private video that has accidentally been synced to all their friends and family’s iPads.

This is not the first time we’ve seen the pair together in a film, having previously starred opposite each other back in 2011 for Bad Teacher. The on-screen chemistry between Jason and Cameron is undeniable, so we’ve had a look back at a few more of the best on-screen pairings.

5 Directors Who Could Make A Great Shazam Movie

DC

While we’re still awaiting official confirmation from Warner Brothers, all signs point to the fact that one of the upcoming DC Comics films currently slated for release between 2016 and 2020 belongs to Shazam.

A Shazam film has been in the works for a while now, and even landed a director, 50 First Dates and Get Smart helmer Peter Segal, in 2009. However, the slate of DC films has shifted dramatically over the last five years, as Warner Brothers spent much of that time deciding which direction to take their extensive DC library of characters. They tried to expand the universe a bit with Green Lantern in 2011, but that project failed and sent them back to the drawing board. Once the Dark Knight trilogy came to a close, they decided to move forward with a new, extensive shared-universe plan, beginning with last year’s Man of Steel. They’ll hit the ground »
