Andrea Riseborough, Kim Cattrall Join Agatha Christie’s ‘The Witness for the Prosecution’
“Birdman” and “Bloodline” actress Andrea Riseborough, Kim Cattrall, formerly of “Sex and the City,” and Toby Jones, who was Emmy and BAFTA nominated for playing Alfred Hitchcock in “The Girl,” have joined the cast of Agatha Christie adaptation “The Witness for the Prosecution.”

The two-part drama, adapted by Sarah Phelps, reunites many of the team behind another Christie tale reworked by Phelps, “And Then There Were None,” which was a critical and ratings hit for the BBC last December, with an audience of more than 8 million.

“The Witness for the Prosecution,” adapted from Christie’s 23-page short story of the same title, will be directed by Julian Jarrold (“Kinky Boots,” “The Girl”) and produced by Colin Wratten (“The Musketeers,” “One of Us”).

A+E Networks holds international distribution rights, outside the U.K. and the U.S., and will launch the show at TV market Mipcom in October.

Lucy Boynton, Nick Moran Join ‘Don’t Knock Twice’
London — Lucy Boynton (“Miss Potter,” “Ballet Shoes,” “Mo”) and Nick Moran (“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” both “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” movies) will join Katee Sackhoff (“Oculus,” “Riddick,” “Battlestar Galactica”) in the supernatural horror film “Don’t Knock Twice,” which is being directed by Caradog James, and begins shooting this week in Cardiff, Wales.

“Don’t Knock Twice” follows a guilt-ridden mother (Sackhoff) who wants to reconnect with the daughter (Boynton) she was forced to place into care. To save her estranged daughter, she has to uncover the terrifying truth behind the urban legend of a vengeful, demonic witch.

James (“The Machine,” “Little White Lies”) is directing from a script by writing duo Mark Huckerby and Nick Ostler, whose credits include “Howl.”

The film is being produced by Red & Black Films’ John Giwa-Amu (“The Machine,” “The Call Up”) and Seymour Films’ Claire Moorsom.

Cilla writer Jeff Pope will receive this year's BAFTA TV Special Award

The writer of ITV's Cilla biopic will be honoured with this year's BAFTA TV Special Award.

Jeff Pope, whose other works include Mrs Biggs, Mo and Appropriate Adult, is receiving the accolade for his creative contribution to television.

The award was last presented in honour of Alan Clarke in 2009.

Pope said: "Alan Clarke was a hero of mine, and I am delighted to have been honoured with this award in his name.

"I have been lucky enough to work with some extraordinarily talented people, and this is a moment in my life to look back with gratitude to all those who have helped me achieve.

"Writing is all about facing down the tyranny of the blank screen, but my message to all aspiring writers is that once you've hit that first key, you discover it's really not so difficult as you'd imagined."

Marshall, Thykier Set Up Film and TV Production House Archery Pictures

London — Liza Marshall, former chief at Ridley Scott’s Scott Free London, has joined forces with Kris Thykier to set up film and television production company Archery Pictures.

Marshall will become joint managing director of the company with Thykier, who will shutter his company PeaPie Films, and move his staff and slate across to the new entity.

Key executives at Archery will include Pip Williams, senior development and production executive, and Mairi Bett, head of physical production.

Thykier, whose films have grossed over $325 million at the worldwide box-office, has two films in production: “Summer of ‘92,” directed by Kasper Barfoed, and “Adam Jones,” which he is executive producing for The Weinstein Company. Thykier is also in post-production on “Woman in Gold,” starring Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds.

Thykier produced Stephen Daldry’s “Trash,” alongside Working Title, which will close the Rio Film Festival on Oct. 7. Further films Thykier has produced include David Frankel’s “One Chance,

We’ve just received the news that BAFTA will give the wonderful and truly acclaimed actress, Julie Walters Cbe, the Fellowship at this year’s Arqiva British Academy Television Awards ceremony at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on Sunday 18th May.

Awarded annually, the Fellowship is the highest accolade bestowed by the Academy in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, television or games and what a truly worthy recipient! Directed by Philip Martin (BAFTA and Emmy Award winner – Prime Suspect, Mo, BBC’s Wallander) and written by Richard D’Ovidio (The Call, Exit Wounds), the film stars two-time Academy Award nominee and two-time Golden Globe winner John Travolta (Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty) , Oscar winner Christopher Plummer (Beginners, The Last Station), Tye Sheridan (Mud, upcoming Joe).

The Forger tells the story of a former child art prodigy and second generation petty thief, Ray Cutter (Travolta) who arranges to buy his way out of prison to spend time with his ailing son, Will Cutter (Sheridan). Ray and his father, Joseph Cutter (Plummer), must come together to carry out one last big job for the syndicate who financed his early release.

The heist film is still in the post-production stage, so no word yet on a release date.
