The Purge: Election Year Gets Thrilling Trailer!

10 February 2016 9:55 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

The Purge is definitely a unique beast of a franchise. The premise is beyond amazing, but the execution so far for both films has been problematic, to say the least. Yet despite the rough two entries, when I left both of them, I thought, "yeah, I'd see another." There's just so much latent potential in the setup that I know at some point they're sure to strike the right chords. Will this third film be the charm? Possibly. If the recent trailer is any indication, then there's a good chance.

But don't take my word for it, check out the trailer below!

Check out the press release for the film below:

Frank Grillo is back, as the first trailer for The Purge 3 - now The Purge: Election Year - lands...

The Purge: Anarchy was, for our money, an example in how a sequel should be done. It took the core idea of the first film - an annual night where breaking the law is allowed - and expanded it significantly, adding a dose of John Carpenter into the mix.

Writer/director James DeMonaco is shepherding the third movie in the series for release this summer, with the terrific Frank Grillo returning to star. And the movie is currently scheduled for release on July 15th 2016.

Here, then, is the first trailer for The Purge 3 - now called The Purge: Election Year  - that’s just landed. Take a look and see what you reckon…

And here's the synopsis too...

Saw 8 confirmed; New writers hired

8 February 2016 11:35 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

An eighth Saw movie is in the works. According to reports, Lionsgate has hired writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger (Sorority RowPiranha 3D and Piranha 3Dd) to pen the new film. It isn;t known if it will be a sequel or reboot, but the word around Hollywood is that it will be called Saw: Legacy.

The Saw movies have been hugely popular since the first film arrived back in 2004. The film and its six sequels have grossed a total of $870 million at the global box-office – all from relatively low budgets.

The story revolves around the character of Jigsaw, a clearly disturbed individual who sets traps and elaborate games for his victims. Over the years, the films have become known for their huge twists as each film climaxes.

Leigh Whannell and James Wan were the driving force behind the original movie, and have been involved in all of the films since. »

'Saw 8' Is Finally Happening with 'Piranha 3D' Writers

8 February 2016 6:42 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Jigsaw is coming back to life once again, with Lionsgate moving forward on the eighth installment of their blockbuster Saw franchise. The Tracking Board reports that the studio has hired Piranha 3D writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger to come aboard and write the script for this new movie, entitled Saw Legacy. No story details were given at this time, and it isn't known if Tobin Bell will be back to play the notorious killer Jigsaw.

James Wan and Leigh Whannell, who came up with the original Saw story, are set to executive produce this sequel. We reported back in 2013 that Lionsgate was developing this Saw sequel, but that report claimed the studio wanted to take its time and develop the perfect story. Lionsgate reportedly considered rebooting the franchise altogether, but it is not known if this new project will be a continuation of Jigsaw's story or not.

Ynms: The Conjuring 2

Jason from Mnpp taking a brief breather between your pre nomination Oscar jitters with a look at the recently dropped trailer for James Wan's Conjuring sequel, creatively titled The Conjuring 2.

I was less bullish (my review) on the 2013 original than most horror movie fans were and indeed than several contributors here at Tfe - I'm more of an Insidious guy myself when it comes to the ghost worlds o' Wan - but I do think that Wan's gotten better as a filmmaker with the years, and he sure knows how to goose a good scare out of an audience.

Anyway let's break down the good the bads and the maybes here after the jump...
