Screen Gems Shake-Up: Clint Culpepper Steps Down, Steve Bersch Takes Over (Exclusive)
Clint Culpepper is stepping down as head of Screen Gems, the Sony Pictures division that specializes in lower-budget genre films, Variety has learned.

He will be replaced by Steve Bersch, the head of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, according to insiders. Culpepper helped rekindle the Screen Gems label in 1998 and was responsible for several hits such as “The Exorcism of Emily Rose,” “Think Like a Man,” and the “Resident Evil” franchise. However, Screen Gems has struggled to field as many success stories in recent years. Its most recent release, the action film “Proud Mary,” bowed to an underwhelming $9.9 million when it opened this month. Culpepper was recently informed that his contract, which was due up, would not be renewed. He will remain a part of Sony’s film family in some capacity through a production deal with the studio.

A spokesman for Sony declined to comment on Bersch’s promotion. In a note to staff, Sony Pictures

Insidious: The Last Key Review

2017 saw the horror genre go from strength to strength, films such as Get Out, Raw, and It proved that mainstream audiences still like to be scared, meaning that 2018 cinema screens will surely be filled with all manner of spooky things. The first such film to emerge is Insidious: The Last Key, the fourth film within the Insidious franchise. The first film, written by Leigh Whannell and directed by his Saw collaborator James Wan, was a smash success, introducing us to parapsychologist Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) and her helpers, Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson), as the tried to help the terrified Lambert family. Why We’re Going to See the New Comedy Blockers

I am a movie fanatic. It is absolutely impossible to miss me. Whether you are going to see a horror flick like Insidious or an action flick like The Bourne Identity, pencil me in. Now there is what I like to call safe territory in my home. That genre that is an idea for everyone — comedy. Of course, nowadays comedies can get pretty dark, which means that it may not be good for the younger kids in the home. The movie Blockers has some adult content in the way of ideas and intentions, but it is pretty clean. Blockers

The ‘Insidious’ & ‘Sinister’ Movies May Crossover

The movie crossover is fast becoming the latest trend in Hollywood. The most recent example of this, which is probably its most high-profile is the M. Night Shyamalan movies Split and Unbreakable, two stand-alone films, which will cross paths in the forthcoming Glass, which is now in post-production and due in January 2019. Well, it looks like two very successful horror series are potentially set to collide in a new movie.

Producer Jason Blum was asked about a potential crossover while out and about promoting the fourth film in the Insidious series, Insidious: The Last Key, which arrives at the weekend. It all sounds like this has already been discussed. The producer spoke with Cinepop:

“I hope so. I want to. We almost did Insidious and Sinister and I still feel like we might do that so, I think so. I think we’re going to cross our worlds at some point.

Horror Hits 'Insidious' and 'Sinister' Could Crossover

Horror fans have seen their favorite monsters and killers face off to varying results over the years, in movies like King Kong vs. Godzilla, Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator and Sadako vs. Kayako. Matchmaking between two established horror franchises is always a possibility; some would even say an inevitability. A crossover between Insidious and Sinister could be the next horror collision on the horizon. Insidious (2010; pictured above) and Sinister (2012) were two of the earliest releases from Blumhouse Productions, a film and television company founded by Jason Blum that specializes in low-budget horror. Insidious took audiences to "The Further," a purgatory realm where human souls are trapped and tortured. Meanwhile, Sinister introduced us to...

A Sinister-Insidious Crossover Could Still Happen At Blumhouse

In recent years, Blumhouse has proven to be a powerhouse in the horror genre, having introduced us to new franchises such as Insidious, Ouija, Paranormal Activity and The Purge. Personally, my favorite of the bunch – and my favorite horror movie of this decade – is that of Sinister, and I’ve been anxiously awaiting some sort of news regarding a threequel.

Well, oddly enough, it looks like I may one day get my wish – though with a bit of a twist. You see, when Jason Blum was recently speaking with CinePop, he confessed that not only had a Sinister–Insidious crossover been discussed, but it one day coming to fruition is a very real possibility:

“We almost did Insidious and Sinister… and I still feel like we might do that. So I think so. I think we’re gonna cross our worlds at some point. I don’t know how yet.

Sinister and Insidious Crossover Is Being Planned

A potentially awesome horror crossover could be heading our way in the future. Insidious: The Last Key is currently doing quite well at the box office, becoming just the latest hit for Blumhouse Productions. The studio, which specializes in low-budget horror movies, has ruled the genre in recent years and has quite a few successful franchises under its belt. Now, according to Blumhouse head Jason Blum, Insidious may be crossing over with one of the studio's other successful franchises, Sinister.

Jason Blum was recently doing an interview to promote Insidious: The Last Key, the fourth movie in the popular horror franchise. During the interview, he was asked about a potential crossover between Insidious and Sinister. It turns out, that's something that's been considered in the past and is still being considered for the future. Here's what he had to say about it.

"I hope so. I want to. We almost

Blumhouse And Hulu Partner For Monthly Horror Anthology Series

Even if some of their films haven’t been your cup of tea, none of us can deny the force in the industry that Blumhouse Productions has become. In the past decade or so, they’ve enthralled audiences with new franchises such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Ouija, The Purge and, my personal favorite, Sinister, to name but a few.

But now, they’re aiming to find new ways of keeping us awake at night, this time via the growing digital streaming market. In fact, they’re pairing with the immensely popular platform Hulu for what Variety describes as being a “new series, part of the Hulu Originals slate, [which] will deliver viewers 12 self-contained stories — a new episode premiering each month over one year.”

Currently, details remain scarce, but despite each episode telling a standalone tale, a connective device is to be expected. Thus, this anthology could end up feeling like Tales from the Darkside

Will There Be Another Insidious Movie? Here's What We Know

Insidious: The Last Key is only the start of a year full of highly anticipated horror movies including Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built and Slender Man. While most critics agree that the Insidious series is running out of fuel, we have reasons to believe that there may yet be another movie, whether or not we want it, because, of course, "Last Key" doesn't necessarily mean it's the "last" movie. Beware - we include spoilers ahead! In the latest Insidious installation, the psychic medium Elise goes to New Mexico for a case that takes place in her childhood home. There, she meets her two nieces, Imogen and Melissa. Portrayed by Caitlin Gerard, Imogen shares Elise's psychic gifts and is able to enter the spirit world. The young woman plays an important role in the movie, as she ends up rescuing Elise from the main evil spirit. This movie then ends
