  Morgan Jones : Hey, mister, you even know what's going on?

  Rick Grimes : I woke up today in the hospital, came home, and that's all I know.

  Duane Jones : Daddy, can I learn to shoot? I'm old enough.

  Morgan Jones : Hell yes, you're gonna learn. But we've got to do it carefully, teach you to respect the weapon.

  Duane Jones : Yes, sir.

• [Morgan tells Rick about the death and reanimation of his wife] 

  Morgan Jones : She, um... She died in the other room on that bed in there. There was nothing I... I could do about it. That fever, man. Her skin gave off heat like a furnace. I should've... I should've put her down, man. I should've put her down. I know that, but I... You know what? I just didn't have it in me. She's the mother of my child.

• [Rick takes Morgan to his home and shows him the missing photo albums] 

  Rick Grimes : They're alive, my wife and son. At least they were when they left.

  Morgan Jones : How can you know? By the look of this place...

  Rick Grimes : I found empty drawers in the bedroom. They packed some clothes. Not a lot, but enough to travel.

  Morgan Jones : You know anybody could've broken in here and stolen clothes, right?

  Rick Grimes : You see the framed photos on the walls? Neither do I. Some random thief take those too, you think? Our photo albums, family pictures, all gone.

  Morgan Jones : Photo albums.

  Morgan Jones : [Morgan chuckles]  My wife... Same thing. There I am packing survival gear, she's grabbing photo albums.

• [Rick sees the officer walker Leon Basset] 

  Rick Grimes : Leon Basset? Didn't think much of him. Careless and dumb, but... Can't leave him like this.

  Morgan Jones : [Rick pulls out his pistol]  You know they'll hear the shot.

  Rick Grimes : Let's not be here when they show up.

  Morgan Jones : [Morgan quickly tells Duane]  Let's go, son. Come on.

• [Morgan questions Rick about his bandaged wound] 

  Morgan Jones : What was? The wound?

  Rick Grimes : Gunshot.

  Morgan Jones : Gunshot? What else? Anything?

  Rick Grimes : Gunshot ain't enough?

• [Rick questions Morgan about shooting the man walking in the street] 

  Rick Grimes : You shot that man today.

  Morgan Jones : Man?

  Duane Jones : That weren't no man.

  Morgan Jones : What the hell was that out of your mouth just now?

  Duane Jones : It wasn't a man.

  Rick Grimes : You shot him in the street out front, a man.

  Morgan Jones : Friend, you need glasses. It was a walker. Come on. Sit down, before you fall down.

• [Rick is hit in the face with a shovel by the kid Duane] 

  Rick Grimes : [Rick drowsy from the ground]  Carl? Carl. I found you.

  Duane Jones : Daddy, I got the sumbitch! I'm gonna smack him dead!

  Morgan Jones : He say something? I thought I heard him say something.

  Duane Jones : He called me Carl.

  Morgan Jones : Son, you know they don't talk.

• [Morgan continues to question Rick about if he got bit] 

  Morgan Jones : Did you get bit?

  Rick Grimes : Bit?

  Morgan Jones : Bit, chewed, maybe scratched... Anything like that?

  Rick Grimes : No, I got shot. Just shot, as far as I know.

• [Morgan tells Rick about the walkers outside and to never let himself get bit by one of them] 

  Rick Grimes : They're out there now? In the street?

  Morgan Jones : Yeah. They get more active after dark sometimes. Maybe it's the cool air or... Hell, maybe it's just me firing that gun today. But we'll be fine, long as we stay quiet. Probably wander off by morning. But listen, one thing I do know... Don't you get bit. I saw your bandage and that's what we were afraid of. Bites kill you. The fever burns you out. But then after a while... You come back.

  Duane Jones : [Duane looks to Rick]  Seen it happen.

• [Morgan asks Rick if he was a bank robber] 

  Duane Jones : Did you ask him?

  Morgan Jones : [Morgan chuckles]  Your gunshot... We've got a little bet going. My boy says you're a bank robber.

  Rick Grimes : [Rick chuckles]  Yeah, that's me. The deadliest Dillinger. Kapow. Sheriff's deputy.

• [Rick asks Morgan if the walkers are really dead, before beating his first walker down with a bat] 

  Rick Grimes : Are we sure they're dead? I have to ask at least one more time.

  Morgan Jones : They're dead, except for something in the brain. That's why it's got to be the head.

• [Duane and Morgan take showers while at the King County police station] 

  Duane Jones : Hot water!

  Morgan Jones : Ah! It feels good, right?

  Duane Jones : [Duane sings in the shower next to his father]  Bring it around, bring it / Bring it, bring it, bring it around, uh / Yeah. I'm wet. Take that. What?

• [Morgan tells Rick that he hopes that Rick finds his wife and son] 

  Morgan Jones : [the two shake hands]  You're a good man, Rick. I hope you find your wife and son.
