Redemption is a dark, sad, tender story of two kids who find a way through their own personal hells. Teenagers Zig and Jaffa get wasted, really wasted, and as always take the broken path from the house to Jaffa's shed to play Redemption. They have discovered a way to take the violence and pain in their young lives and transform it into pleasure, healing and ultimately love. Redemption is their favourite game but on this day it changes their lives forever. In this coming of age story, survival may not bring a happy ending. Written by publicist

The story starts with the two main characters, the girl named Jaffa (played by Sera Henare) and a man named Zig (played by Pana Hema Taylor), sitting in a dark unlit messy and poor looking room. In the window, one can catch a glimpse of the rural area outside. They have taken drugs unknown to the viewer, while smoking some cannabis. It's clear that the director wants to show you that even though they are laughing, they are not genuinely happy.

An irritated jogger whom seems to live in the house with the girl comes by and looks irritated, only to leave the story until the ending. The young couple take some more drugs and leaves for the girls room, in a smaller house outside. They begin a ritual of blowing air and kissing each-others scars, calling it "time for Redemption". They have sex, do some more drugs and fall asleep. The next morning Zig wakes up early, makes some tea and goes back to give it to Jaffa. Jaffa however has died during the night (because of the drugs, obviously) and he throws the teacup away so it breaks. He tries to wake her, but to no avail. He then cuts himself with the broken teacup across the chest, puts some blood on her lips as goodbye and goes to tell the jogger about what happened.

If this seems stupid to you, it's because it is. I saw this as a short before Winter's Bone on Stockholm Filmfestival, and I can tell you I was relieved when I realised it wasn't just a chapter of the main movie called Redemption... and so was a lot of other people by the sound of it. The "Redemption" ritual and the cutting over the chest just felt incredibly unnecessary, as if the director had read up on "sad emo crap" and just made whatever the first Google-hit said. +1 for the jogger who seemed as annoyed as I was.

If I wanted to watch an anti-drug movie, I'd watch a commercial by Drug Free America Foundation or something of the likes. Because that's all I found in this movie, a poorly made 15 minute anti-drug commercial. I'm sorry you lost 5 minutes of your life reading about this horrible flick, but if you're lucky you will have saved the 15 it took watching this crap.
