Lily James & Douglas Booth Swallow Pride & Prejudice & Zombies

5 September 2014 1:00 AM, PDT | kidspickflicks | See recent kidspickflicks news »

Update: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies just won't die, and hopefully the new cast will give it the breath of life it needs to make the parody film work. Lily Collins is now out, but Lily James (the new Cinderella) is in. Other new cast members include Sam Riley (Maleficent), Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows), Douglas Booth (Romeo & Juliet) as Mr. Darcy's friend Bingley and Emma Greenwell ("Shameless") as Bingley's sister, and Jack Huston (Kill Your Darlings) as the handsome Lt. Wickham. It hasn't been clarified if Riley is playing Mr. Darcy or if that role has yet to be cast.

May 2, 2013: Lily Collins (Mirror, Mirror) will star in Pride, Prejudice and Zombies and, in doing so, brings the project back from grave. Burr Steers (17 Again) will direct, which - if you're counting - makes the project's the fifth director. Burr Steers is directing from a script he co-wrote with David O. Russell, who was attached to direct at one point in the project's lengthy development process. Trailer for Bang Bang Baby starring Jane Levy and Justin Chatwin

31 August 2014 11:26 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

In this current culture of major big budget cinematic events, I find myself searching for more subversive experiences. Smaller films that take bigger risks and often payoff with bigger rewards. Movies like Snowpiercer and Life After Beth come to mind. As geek culture becomes the center of the entertainment universe, independent filmmakers can make more genre-friendly small budget films capable of playing with our favorite conventions. Bang Bang Baby seems to fit that bill. A sci-fi musical rooted in the classic drive-in scary movies of the 1960′s.

From IMDb:

A small town teenager in the 1960s believes her dreams of becoming a famous singer will come true when her rock star idol gets stranded in town. But a leak in a nearby chemical plant that is believed to be causing mass mutations threatens to turn her dream into a nightmare.

The film screens this month at the Toronto Film Festival »

Teen Angst Is in the Air During the Brooding Jamie Marks Is Dead

Supernatural teen angst and romance are in the chilly air of fashion photographer-turned-filmmaker Carter Smith’s (The Ruins) brooding and mostly naturalistic psychodrama, ripped from the pages of Christopher Barzak’s young-adult novel One for Sorrow. The naked corpse of Jamie Marks (Noah Silver, looking like Harry Potter’s sinister doppelgänger) is found under a creek bridge in upstate New York, stumbled upon by rock-collecting loner Gracie (Homeland’s Morgan Saylor). Also profoundly affected: Adam (Shameless’s Cameron Monaghan), a stoic ginger and cross-country track star who witnessed his teammates bullying Jamie but never stepped up to befriend or defend him. 2014 Emmy Award Winners Dominated by 'Breaking Bad'

26 August 2014 7:33 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Last night the 2014 Emmy Award winners were announced with "Breaking Bad" taking home top honors with five wings including Outstanding Drama Series, followed by "Modern Family" with three wins including Outstanding Comedy Series. FX programs "American Horror Story: Coven" and "Fargo" each took home two awards including an Outstanding Miniseries win for "Fargo". Meanwhile, new shows such as "Orange is the New Black" and "Silicon Valley" went home empty handed and for all the fanfare it received in its first season, including 12 Emmy nominations, "True Detective" only took home one win, that being for director Cary Joji Fukunaga". Personally, I don't give a lick about the Emmys, it's right there with the Grammys in terms of worthless awards shows for me. It's a show wherein people must nominate themselves and while most award shows are no better, this one is down there near the bottom for me. So, with that said, »

Breaking Bad Tops True Detective at the 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards

26 August 2014 2:47 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Breaking Bad’s amazing final season always meant that it was a likely winner come awards season. However, the debut of the critically acclaimed True Detective earlier this year did leave many wondering whether it might rob the end to Walter White’s story of one final sweep of prizes at last night’s Emmy Awards.

As it turns out, Breaking Bad would end up being rewarded for those amazing final episodes, though True Detective did earn a very well deserved award for director Cary Joji Fukunaga (who helmed all eight instalments).

The UK was represented by Sherlock, and that too did exceptionally well, walking away with Emmys for Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and writer Steven Moffat. Looking at the results, it’s hard to imagine anyone being too upset with the results, though many Game of Thrones fans won’t be happy to see that it was again snubbed. »
