Scenes had to be shot at an abandoned Marshall Field's building in Park Forest, IL to substitute for a 1990s public woman's bathroom. Since the bathroom was in such bad shape, the crew had to fix it up with parts from around the store including dressing room mirrors.
The film was in jeopardy of not going into production after auditioning over 200 local Chicago actors. The director was not satisfied with anyone for the role until the last person to audition, Roger Bailey, changed his mind. He was cast for the lead role.
