Corrupt businessman Filip Pasolic stands trial for bringing illegal workers into Sweden and using them as slave labour. Wallander is injured by a car bomb intended for Kristina, who is prosecuting Pasolic and she is given police protection. At the same time pressure on the illegal Lithuanian work force to re-build Ystad's recycling centre in time for it to get an E.U. grant results in two men being killed, one of whose little sister,Natalia, sees construction manager Zoran bury the corpses. She goes to the police and implicates Zoran but takes off again with Zoran in pursuit. Wallander can link Zoran to Pasilic and needs to find him before he gets to Natalia in order to strong-arm him into testifying against Passilic. He also has to dissuade Katarina from resigning as,due to witness intimidation, the case is going against her. Written by

Add Synopsis
Once again, a business kingpin is the target of the police for bringing in underpaid foreign workers from the Baltics. These malfunctions of the labor market are no doubt arising from such sources as territorial State laws and EU regulations, but these are not alluded to except when Wallander turns off the radio during a political speech.
The story revolves around two witnesses or potential witnesses who might testify at a trial being held in which Katerina is the prosecutor. She's entirely frustrated because witnesses are being intimated, bombings are occurring, and witnesses are recanting testimony.
One witness is a Lithuanian girl of about 12-14 years who was hid on a construction site and saw a cover-up of a murder and an accident. Another possible witness is a construction manager who links to the kingpin.
Both Kurt and Katerina have their hands full. Jussi gets into the act and is injured.
By the time this is wrapped up, so is this series. Katerina is on her way back to Stockholm, apparently out of the continuing picture in case the series is brought back to life. Kurt is looking for a life beyond work. Martinsson and Svartman are wondering who will lead them or what's gotten into their boss.
All in all, thanks to the entire cast and guest stars and actors, and the crews for putting together a series with intelligence and heart that was memorable. The 26 episodes passed before my viewing very quickly.
It will be on to some of the originals with Rolf Lessgard and to some of the Branagh interpretations, of which I saw 3 several years ago before writing any reviews.
