Paramount announces release dates for G.I. Joe, Micronauts and Dungeons & Dragons

As the year comes to an end, Paramount are already plotting their future by announcing the release dates of four of their upcoming Hasbro blockbusters.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the studio would continue their attempts to gain traction with the G.I. Joe brand by launching another film, simply titled ‘G.I. Joe’ on March 27th 2020. Their previous two attempts to make the Hasbro action figures a viable cinematic property, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), were met with middling results, both critically and commercially.

Paramount will also roll the dice on another iteration of the Dungeons & Dragons game, with 17 years having passed since the lamentable Jeremy Irons version, July 23rd 2021 will be the date we get to see whether this is the new Warcraft, or a Lord of the Rings style success.

The other two slots were reserved for a Micronauts film

G.I. Joe 3 finally confirmed, release date announced

Mike Cecchini Dec 19, 2017

G.I. Joe 3 will reboot the franchise, and will arrive in cinemas in 2020.

It has been far too long since we've had any G.I. Joe 3 news. It's really something that we've only had two big screen outings for one of the most popular toy lines of all time, when you think about it. G.I. Joe was more than just the most massive military themed line of action figures and vehicles in history, and more than a wildly successful animated series, and more than a surprisingly great (and long running) comic book series. G.I. Joe is a pop culture brand that help defines the 1980s in a way that superhero franchises do our modern era.

But 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra never really felt like it hit the mark, yet did well enough to warrant a sequel, 2013's G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Despite feeling far more like classic Joe,

Dwayne Johnson Discusses the Future of The G.I. Joe Film Franchise and I Have Some Ideas of My Own

Earlier this year we learned that Paramount Pictures was going to give the G.I. Joe franchise a fresh start with a revamped look. This new direction they plan on taking the franchise is said to appeal to younger audiences and fans. Anything they do next can't be any worse than the first two movies that were made.

As a long time fan of the G.I. Joe cartoon and toys, I would love to take a crack at helping develop a G.I. Joe film. I just finally want to see a great series of G.I. Joe movies! When talking about the franchise and it's future, Dwayne Johsnson, who played Roadblock in the G.I. Joe: Retaliation told Cinemablend:

"We have talked with Paramount. ... They have a big writers' room with Transformers. With G.I. Joe, too. But the world of G.I. Joe, what's exciting about that is,

Consider With Reservations: The Stars of Quantity Over Quality Cinema

The stars of yesterday now are making three films a year you never knew existed until they show up on Netflix.^ Real Movie ^

In my prior life as a script reader, I certainly read a lot of bad scripts, but at times, an even more common occurrence was a script that seemed to do a great many things right, but somehow fell just short of being something you wanted to champion as a movie. As draining as the terrible scripts were, there’s something pure about clear-cut bad. It takes little effort to explain why they’re unfit.

The real challenges were the scripts that had kind of a decent premise, kind of an okay twist or two, and a lead character who wasn’t bad so much as he or she was just… there. The raw materials are there for what Could be a script. They just happen to be assembled in the least compelling way

Paramount & Hasbro Rebooting ‘G.I. Joe’ For Millennials

“G.I. Joe” and its sequel “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” are the blockbusters that never quite became sensations. Both did respectably at the box office, but they didn’t catch fire either, leaving them to be a curio in the Paramount catalog. There’s been talk about a movie universe featuring G.I. Joe, alongside other Hasbro brands Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K., and Rom, but we haven’t heard much about that of late, and the studio nixed a possible crossover with their lucrative “Transformers” series.

The G.I. Joe franchise to be rebooted with a more "millennial" approach

  • JoBlo
Although both G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra and G.I. Joe: Retaliation certainly made money, they never approached the level of success that the Transformers franchise has, and it seems that Hasbro is looking to wipe the slate clean and start over. Hasbro promises “a different kind of G.I. Joe” with movie reboot

Although Paramount Pictures and Hasbro spent time developing a third instalment of the G.I. Joe movie franchise under director D.J. Caruso (which would have crossed over with Transformers), it was announced back in December 2015 that the studio was instead rebooting the franchise as part of a shared cinematic universe with fellow Hasbro properties Micronauts, Visionairies, M.A.S.K. and Rom.

We’ve heard very little in the way of development since that time, but Hasbro’s Chief Content Officer Stephen Davis has been chatting to IGN about the property, confirming that it remains very much a part of their plans, and promising “a different kind of G.I. Joe” when the Real American Heroes do return to the big screen.

“The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it,” said Davis. “There’s going to be a much more

The myth of screenwriting credits

Simon Brew Apr 3, 2017

Why the writers credited on a movie are rarely the only ones who put the screenplay together....

The Wizard Of Oz, since its initial release in 1939, has richly deserved its long-cemented status as an all-time classic. A regular resident in the IMDb top 250 films of all time, and a part of many people’s DVD collection, it’s a film that I’d wager more and more people fall in love with each year. Long may that continue.
