'The Ring' Reboot Casts Matilda Lutz in the Lead

16 January 2015 1:35 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Paramount Pictures has cast little-known Italian actress Matilda Lutz as the female lead for Rings, a follow-up to 2002's The Ring and 2005's The Ring Two which was formerly known as The Ring 3D. While it hasn't been confirmed, this project is expected to continue the continuity from the first two thrillers, although it will feature a brand new cast. Naomi Watts, who starred in both The Ring and The Ring Two, will not be returning for the sequel.

No details were given for Matilda Lutz's character, but the story is said to feature the tormented Samara and a deadly videotape, although no specific story details were released. We reported in July that F. Javier Guti&#233rrez (Before the Fall, The Crow) signed on to direct, with screenwriter Akiva Goldsman coming aboard in August to rewrite the script, which was originally written by David Loucka (House at the End of the Street, »

Great Actors Who Did Terrible Movies Simply for the Paycheck

-Aly Semigran

It happens to the best of them. Distinguished actors and actresses in Hollywood can often find themselves in downright terrible movies and roles. Unfortunately, they’re pretty impossible to forget. Despite all of the other amazing performances on their resume, it’s these clunkers and misfires from the likes of beloved stars like Kate Winslet and Ryan Gosling that tend to stand out. We’ve picked 15 of the absolute worst roles by some of the best actors and actresses of our time.

Al Pacino in Jack and Jill (2011)

Honestly, we could do an entire separate list of Pacino’s worst roles, but did any of the Oscar-winning actor’s terrible movies feature the star playing himself while rapping about Dunkin’ Donuts and seducing Adam Sandler in drag? We didn’t think so.

Sandra Bullock in All About Steve (2009)

Ratings: ‘American Idol’ Wins Thursday for Fox; CBS’ ‘Mom’ Sets Highs

9 January 2015 9:14 AM, PST | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

American Idol” may be down but it can still lead Fox to nightly victories, as it did on Thursday. The show’s two-hour auditions episode won its time period in key demos, though CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory” was easily the night’s No. 1 show and “Mom” followed it up with across-the-board series highs. And 10 p.m. dramas “Elementary” on CBS and “Parenthood” on NBC matched their season highs as they enjoy some weeks without firstrun ABC competition.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “American Idol” averaged a 3.0 rating/9 share in adults 18-49 and 11.0 million viewers overall from 8 to 10 p.m., retaining nearly all of its hourlong demo score of the previous night (3.1 in the prelims, 3.2 in the nationals). This is the show’s best night two performance relative to night one in six years in 18-49, and the first time in 13 years (since its first season) that it »

TV Ratings: 'American Idol' Night 2 helps Fox hold off 'Big Bang'-driven CBS on Thursday

9 January 2015 8:45 AM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Thursday, January 8, 2015. Fueled by its two-hour running time, the season's second night of "American Idol" rose in viewers and nearly equalled the premiere in the key demo, helping Fox win Thursday in both measures. While "The Big Bang Theory" clobbered "Idol" across-the-board, "Idol" was able to do better against the rest of the CBS comedies, dominating the 9 p.m. hour in particular. Fox boasts this is the best Night 2 "Idol" retention in six years, but the whole one-hour versus two-hour thing makes that an apples/oranges comparison. Among other Thursday notables, the home-stretch for "Parenthood" got off to a solid start, while nobody watches NBC's 9 p.m. comedies. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, Fox averaged a 3.0 rating for Thursday night, comfortably beating CBS' 2.4 rating in the key demographic. There was a big drop to Fox's 1.1 key demo rating and ABC's 0.8 key demo rating. The »
