While people may obsess over the long-running feuds between Batman and Superman, or Captain America and Iron Man, the real battle is between the studios that oversee those names: DC and Marvel.

With the two companies releasing their tentpole blockbusters within a month of each other, the behind-the-scenes rivalry transitioned into the multiplex with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War – and thanks to a very observant listener to the Flickering Myth Podcast, we might have uncovered a secret joke from Marvel at DC’s expense.

This is an extract from the mailbag section of Flickering Myth Podcast #26 (18th May, 2016). Kudos to listener Tim Walden for bringing it up.

Cary Fukunaga Confirmed To Be In Talks For HBO’s Napoleon

20 May 2016 1:05 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

A few days ago, we reported on a rumor that True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga might be directing Stanley Kubrick’s dream project Napoleon for HBO. Now we have official confirmation that Fukunaga is definitely in talks for the show, with Steven Spielberg producing.

Napoleon was a dream production for Stanley Kubrick, who spent years working on and researching it, only to never have it realized. Steven Spielberg has been lending a hand to the project as a producer, but there were never any rumors that he might step in to direct. Baz Luhrmann was attached to the production for awhile, but has since exited. Now, it appears that Fukunaga is likely to take his place.

Fukunaga is perfectly suited for a production of Napoleon – he’s proven his mettle with the first season of True Detective for HBO, and so it’s not surprising that he would want to »

Stanley Kubrick’s Napoleon May Be Headed To HBO With Cary Fukunaga

18 May 2016 10:09 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Rumours and hearsay are the plague of the entertainment industry, but the recent story about Stanley Kubrick’s passion project, Napoleon, comes from a relatively solid source – the late director’s brother-in-law. At an event held recently at De Montfort University in the UK, Jan Harlan – who also executive produced such Kubrick projects as The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut – explained that the Napoleon project would be headed to HBO as a six-hour miniseries, with Cary Fukunaga possibly at the helm.

Fukunaga has a relationship with HBO which previously bore the phenomenally successful, award-winning first season of True Detective – of which he directed all of the episodes. This Napoleon miniseries would likely be delivered in a similar way, but boasts Steven Spielberg among its producers. As a long-time friend of Kubrick, Spielberg was previously rumoured to be attached to Napoleon – as was Baz Luhrmann, at one time. Neither of those versions made it to production, »

Rumour: Ben Affleck “humiliated” over Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice reaction

9 May 2016 12:32 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

More bad news for the rumour pile of the continuing war over at Warner Bros. over the future of the DC Extended Universe.

Last week it was reported that Seth Grahame-Smith had left the directing duties of The Flash and there were rumours that Zack Snyder was having arguments with the top brass at the studio over Justice League and that James Wan could leave Aquaman (which he later denied).

Well the man behind those last two rumours, Devin Faraci of Birth.Movies.Death has a new rumour surrounding Ben Affleck’s reaction to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which could tie into why he was announced as executive producer for Justice League.

“My sources have told me that Affleck was incredibly unhappy about the reception of BvS,” Faraci writes. “He felt humiliated after spending so much of the press tour saying how much better this film would be than Daredevil. »

During an interview with Pro Video Coalition, editor David Brenner has been discussing his work on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, revealing that the original cut of the movie ran close to a staggering four hours.

Batman v Superman was a unique challenge in that we had not one but two protagonists, each with an alter-ego,” states Brenner. “So there was Clark Kent, Superman, Bruce Wayne and Batman. And then surrounding them are Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Wallace Keefe (the guy who loses his legs when Wayne Tower falls), Perry White, Martha Kent, Holly Hunter’s character (Senator Finch), and still more characters orbiting them.”

“It was a lot to juggle,” he continues. “So the plot lines of a couple characters had to go.   These people are currently in the movie but we don’t track them, and it’s okay. What’s kind of fun is that we »
