Storyline

The Christmas eve spirit gets Ringo and Donna back on romantic terms, despite her utter insecurity. Karl abuses his newspaper Christmas contest judge position, mainly to make Paul dress up as an elf, and still gives the prize away to Harold's Store. Paul shows class by throwing a party anyway, yet with a double bottom: it's his surprise wedding now the final divorce papers came trough. Paul gets the ultimate surprise: a son. As season finales go, this is unlikely to go down as one of the classics.A perfunctory wedding for the show's worst couple, a random Christmas light scene stuck in the middle and a cliffhanger reveal that they blew in the closing credits two weeks ago.

Any hope of a decent ending to the tedious Christmas Spirit Contest storyline curls up and dies the moment Karl is announced as the judge. How does he qualify as impartial?Paul becomes soap's most married man by tying the knot with Rebecca, leading to a cringeworthy scene of Lyn announcing she still loves him.Which is almost saved by Susan's reaction.

Donna continues to be the most destructive character on the show as she compounds her betrayal of Ringo by making sure her two best friends are as miserable as possible.Ringo seems to be getting a glimpse of what's going on under the surface and it would be nice if the reference to Simon and Tegan was actually going to lead somewhere. Talking of which, there's absolutely no continuation of the cliffhanger ending to the previous episode, aside from a couple of lines of Rebecca wondering where Lucas has got to...
