The CW Releases Clips for The Tomorrow People, The Originals, The 100, and Star-crossed

  • ScifiMafia
The CW has long been one of the best supporters of Our Kind of Shows, and at this year’s Upfronts they put even more money where our hearts are. Of the six new shows announced for the fall and winter schedule, four are for us: The Originals, The Tomorrow People, The 100, and Star-Crossed. Now of course more than one has that trademark The CW soap opera-ish spin on it, but hey, not Every show is for every one of us.

Here to assist in our prejudging are synopses for all, via Deadline, and maybe even better, clips and/or TV spots. There’s not really anything new for The Originals, but fans will want to see it all again anyway. The Tomorrow People features the wonderful Mark Pellegrino so it’s my favorite of the four.

The 100 (pronounced “the hundred”, not “the one hundred”) has an encouraging clip,

[DVD Review] StarStruck

StarStruck plays it safe with a “fish out of water” and “don’t judge a book by its cover” plot teaching kids that you might find friends in the most unlikely of places. Disney’s direct-to-tv movie banks on the current pop culture obsession with Disney’s self-made tween stars and makes a story about a girl meeting a pop idol, whom she loathes, only for both of them to discover that the other represents something they’ve always wanted. It’s a simple story with decent child actors, painfully aware that it doesn’t have to do much to impress its automatic audience. The kiddies it’s aimed at will enjoy it at least the first time around, but repeat viewings won’t offer much and parents will find its characters tiresome from the start.

Steling Knight, who has an equal measure of Disney Channel and other credits to his name,

StarStruck Extended Edition DVD Review With Sterling Knight And Danielle Campbell Q&As

In the world of made-for-television, made-for-tweens movies, there is little offered that can even manage to simply avoid annoying those outside the target audience. StarStruck, while certainly not something parents are going to fall in love with, is a slightly different breed. Starring Sterling Knight (Sonny with a Chance) and Danielle Campbell, the movie takes a fairly common situational romance story (at least it used to be), and aims it at a younger crowd. Sterling plays Christopher Wilde, an outrageously popular teen idol, thus providing us with opportunities for song, while Danielle plays Jessica Olson, one of the only teen girls who isn't a fan. We're introduced to our story by way of Sara, Jessica's sister, mooning furiously over Christopher in typical, self-proclaimed number-1 fan fashion. Jessica is sickened by her sister's crush, and doesn't want to go on the family vacation to Los Angeles which is apparently being taken largely for purposes of Christopher-stalking.
