Storyline

To investing partner Kappo's delight, working Crisp partners Ben and Cam finally have everything together for their first sale, albeit it 'just' t-shirts. That will cover their bet with René, but a day late, so he makes them 'work for it' as sample clerks for the Caribean energy drink he's marketing in New York for white Jamaican John Lardner, a fellow ex-con and hence a recipe for disaster according Rene's parole officer Larry. They play hookey to collect and deliver the t-shirts, but the truck ends up being stolen. Meanwhile Darren gets his board to engage lover Rachel, whom he invited to move in, to redecorate his hotel with her enthusiastic boss, but instead she feel 'manipulated', gets drunk and most rudely tries to win Ben back, just when he was ready to give Julie a go. Rene, from con man to CEO
30 December 2010 | by (New York) – See all my reviews

As the episode begins we find Ben in bed with Julie. It is clear both got a good time, but the phone interrupts them. It is Cam reminding Ben they were supposed to meet. Julie will not be in for the week-end; she is going to a wedding in Baltimore. She even invites Ben to come along, but Ben thinks about it and decides he will let her know.

Rene has visited the men behind the Rasta Monsta drink he wants to distribute. They are certain he will be approved, but he must pass the interview with Mr. Lardner, the head of the company. Depending on the outcome, he will have the rights to move the product, or not. As Rene gets back to his office, we see Cam and Ben waiting for him. They want to run their campaign through Rene, who informs them he wants them to earn his interest by going through Manhattan with the promotional truck handing out samples of the beverage.

Rachel and her boss Edie have come to make a presentation to the owners of the new hotel in the Bowery that is earmarked to be a hot property. Darren has was instrumental in getting them the break. Rachel, who was not keen on the idea of moving in with Darren, is of two minds. She thinks they can do the designing job, a huge project for their firm, but at the same time, she is not ready to make a commitment to Darren.

Rene gets a surprise in his office, when his parole officer, Larry, shows up unexpectedly. Larry wants to know where did the former con get his money to invest in the beverage company. As he gets the call that the head of Rasta Monsta is ready to meet at a bar, Larry tells him he will go along. The meeting goes well, until Rene, feeling the presence of Larry, confesses his past. Larry and Rene are astonished to hear Mr. Lardner has also been jailed for another offense. Both men seem to get along fine, after all, they speak the same language.

In the middle of the promotion at Union Square, Ben and Cam receive a phone call from the man that was doing the engraving of the tee shirts: they are ready! So both men pack it in and go on to pick up the merchandise. The finished product looks wonderful. As they stop on the way back to have a bite to eat, Cam and Ben, look to their parked van as people break in and take off with the vehicle and their dreams. Ben wonders whether to go to Baltimore with Julie, as he reaches his building. He cannot believe his eyes: Rachel is sitting in his stoop, in a drunken state, waiting for him. Ben, who has not stopped loving her, invites her to come upstairs with him.

Another great episode in this surprising series. Directed by Danny Leiner, and written by Rob Weiss and the talented Sarah Treem, who was involved with the successful "In Treatment" series. In addition Ms. Treem is a credited producer of this program. Mr. Leiner manages to keep things going at a quick pace, getting good performances from his cast. Besides the wonderful regulars, Bryan Greenberg, Victor Rusak, Lake Bell, David Kaplan, Jason Pendergraft and the amazing Luis Guzman, the invited guests do a valuable contribution to keep things moving fast. Among the featured players, John Carroll Lynch, Margarita Levieva, Patrick Bauchau and Martha Plimpton are seen.
