Tragedy and comedy

This season seems to be getting into its stride and Karen's life appears to be going in a downward spiral; as the episode starts she is forgetting the whereabouts of her baby once more. It seems that she is just over stressed but it is clear something is really wrong when she puts the baby in a drawer and closers it. Briefly it seems that things might be getting better as she decides to start exercise classes at the pub however she is soon screaming whenever she sees her husband and only Paddy can comfort her. Meanwhile the youngest of the Gallagher boys has become rather smitten with a girl in his class and when invited over for dinner is delighted until the subject of family arises. He doesn't want her well off family to know he is from an estate so makes up a story about how his father was a successful doctor who died trying to save somebody, this of course backfires when they later meet Frank. This episode also appears to see the departure of another couple of long time secondary characters; who they are I won't spoil here. The funniest parts of the episode feature Mickey claiming to have problems with the plumbing in order to get a plumber he fancies to keep coming round.

This episode was a nice mix of comedy and tragedy which gave Rebecca Atkinson chance to show her acting range as Karen has a breakdown. The rest of the cast also put in good performances. Remember not to turn off till the post credit scene is over as Mickey's new idea to get a workman round is very funny.
